Skylar Krupa, a 19-year-old from a small town in Alberta, Canada, who created a TikTok account for his 87-year-old grandmother, Jenny Krupa, is now running a successful TikTok account with over 400,000 followers and more than 12.6 million likes (via Business Insider).
Krupa, who stars in videos produced by her grandson, has gone viral on TikTok since the duo started posting in late August 2019. Krupa told the publication that he was aware of TikTok before he downloaded it, but he mostly associated it with lip-syncing videos.
But when Krupa saw a compilation of funny TikToks on Facebook, he decided to make an account for his grandmother, whom he calls Baba. He then started posting videos privately, initially sharing them only with cousins and other family members.
According to Krupa, he accidentally posted the above “Perks of being old” video publicly, and it reached 1,000 views in about 15 minutes. He “freaked out” and called his cousins, but ultimately decided “this is why I made the account, for her to get big on the app.”
Once the videos started getting thousands of views, Skylar said he needed to better explain to Jenny what was happening — he described it as “almost like TV,” where people scroll through channels.
Skylar says he charges $25 per 25,000 followers to promote a song in a video, which works out to roughly $440 per song with about 439,000 followers. You can check out more videos by the Krupas at this link.
