Alexandre Gagnon, country manager for Amazon.ca said in a statement “With Same-Day Delivery, customers in Toronto and Vancouver can conveniently take care of errands or complete holiday shopping in a day with just a few clicks, receive orders seven days a week and have what they need delivered to their home in a matter of hours.”

  • Place Orders as Late as Noon: Customers can place orders as late as noon and receive packages before 9 p.m. the same day.
  • Per-Order Pricing for Prime Members: Amazon Prime members receive Same-Day Delivery for a flat fee of $6.99 per-order, allowing members to add additional Same-Day Delivery eligible items to their order at no additional shipping cost. Pricing for non-Prime customers is calculated by adding an $11.99 “Per Shipment” cost and a $1.99 “Per Item” cost for most items.
  • Receive Same-Day Orders Every Day: Customers can have orders delivered to their home seven days a week, including on the weekend.

Amazon Canada says over 1 million items are eligible in Toronto for same-day delivery, while there are “hundreds of thousands” in Vancouver. Prime members just pay $6.99 which includes adding on other same-day items at no extra cost, while it’s a standard $11.99 per shipment for non-members. Time is money.

The move is seen to compete with Walmart, which currently offers free same-day shipping in the Greater Toronto Area, launched last September. Gus Kokonas, head of e-commerce operations at Walmart told The Globe and Mail the company will consider making the service permanent after the holidays.

Amazon Canada continues to get better but still is not as good as its American counterpart, however we did get new $79 Kindles and Fire tablets back in September.

Same day delivery even on weekends? I bet so many people can’t wait to do online shopping in their underwear on Sundays. If you’re a parent and need diapers or other items the same-day, this service could be priceless, especially ordering on the Amazon iOS app.
