On Tuesday morning Amazon unveiled all-new Kindle Paperwhite e-readers, including a new Signature Edition featuring wireless charging for the first time.

“Customers love Kindle Paperwhite, and we’ve worked hard to add even more premium experiences to the next generation,” said Kevin Keith, vice president of Amazon Devices and Services, in a statement to iPhone in Canada.

“The new Kindle Paperwhite comes with a warm light and larger display for even more comfort, 20% faster page turns, and up to 10 weeks of battery life—all in a compact, waterproof design that makes it easy to enjoy a book anywhere, day or night.  Now more than ever, it’s delightful to get lost in millions of books wherever you go,” added Keith.

The next-gen Kindle Paperwhite now includes a larger 6.8-inch glare-free 300 ppi display, features up to 10 weeks of battery life, adjustable warm light, USB-C charging and is now 20% faster thanks to new hardware and software interface. The flush-front design has smaller 10.2mm bezels, while the display brightness is also now 10% brighter at max settings.

The Kindle Paperwhite remains IPX8 rated water-resistant, meaning it’s waterproof in up to two meters of fresh water for up to 60 minutes. Storage is at 8GB and there are 17 LEDs in the front light, to go with a flush-front design.

The new Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition has all the features of the regular Paperwhite, but ups storage to 32GB, adds auto-adjusting light sensors based on your environment and time of day, and for the first time in a Kindle, wireless charging (wireless charger sold separately).

Update Sept. 22, 2021: Amazon told iPhone in Canada the wireless charging feature is based on the Qi wireless charging specification. You can see a list of compatible chargers here.

The new wireless charging dock for the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition costs $38.99 CAD and launches on December 1, 2021. Amazon says it can charge your Kindle to 100% in as little as 2 hours with 7.5W charging speeds.

Amazon also adds both the Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition are built with 60% post-consumer recycled plastic, while 95% of device packaging is made of wood fibre-based materials from responsibly managed forests or recycled sources.

On a side note, the previous-gen Kindle Paperwhite is on sale for $104 right now, saving you $35 (25% off). You get a 6-inch 300 ppi display, 8GB storage, it’s waterproof, lacks the warm colours for the front light, and extra 10% max brightness, but still is a solid e-reader.
