Apple has launched a new screening tool and app for COVID-19 today, aimed for its customers in the United States.
The COVID-19 website and iOS app (U.S. only) was created in partnership with the CDC, the Coronavirus Task Force and FEMA to help Americans “get trusted information and guidance at a time when the US is feeling the heavy burden of COVID-19.”
Users answer questions on the website and app related to COVID-19 risk factors, exposure and symptoms, then will be presented with recommendations to either self-isolate and more.
“Consistent with Apple’s strong dedication to user privacy, the COVID-19 app and website were built to keep all user data private and secure. The tools do not require a sign-in or association with a user’s Apple ID, and users’ individual responses will not be sent to Apple or any government organization,” explains the company.
There’s no word if Apple will be creating an equivalent website and app for Canadians, but given the high numbers of COVID-19 cases in the U.S. at the moment, this tool will be handy for numerous Americans to stay informed about coronavirus. The U.S. now leads the world with nearly 86,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
Apple CEO Tim Cook recently announced the company had donated 10 million N95 masks for healthcare workers in the U.S. and Europe.
