Apple Says It’s Not Interested in Buying TikTok After Rumours Swirl
Earlier this morning, Axios reported Apple had “expressed interest” in acquiring Chinese social media app TikTok, with the latter facing a potential ban in the United States by President Donald Trump, over national security fears.
“Multiple sources tell me that Apple has expressed interest, albeit no sources inside of Apple, and that at least one other strategic has expressed interest,” reported Dan Primack for Axios.
Chinese company ByteDance owns TikTok and with a possible ban in the United States, Microsoft announced on the weekend it planned to acquire the app.
With Axios throwing Apple to the mix, the iPhone maker quickly responded with a statement, denying any involvement.
A later update added by Primack explains, “an Apple spokesperson tells Axios that there are no discussions about buying TikTok and the company isn’t interested.”
So there you have it. Apple may have been involved at one point but right now, it’s staying away from TikTok.
