Apple’s upcoming Apple Watch has won the 2015 iF Design Award for ‘Discipline Product’, taking home the gold. According to the jury-statement, they describe the wearable as “already an icon” due to its remarkable design details (via AppleInsider):
The idea of combining classic materials such as leather and metal with state-of-the-art technology to create a very individual fashion accessory has resulted in a delightful product offering a holistic user experience. The Apple Watch scores highly for each design detail and is an altogether extraordinary piece of design. For us, it is already an icon.
The Apple Watch beat over 3,200 designs in the Product discipline category to take home the award. Apple is expected to announce more details about the wearable at its special event next Monday.
iPhone 6 Named Best Mobile Handset at MWC
On the smartphone front, the iPhone 6 has taken the crown with the LG G3 in the “Best Mobile Handsets & Devices”, announced by the 20th annual Global Mobile Awards, which took place at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, presented by actor John Cleese.
According to the judges’ comments, here’s why Apple’s iPhone 6 took home the title:
“With all round improvements, from designs, to specs, to functionality yet remaining true to the core this proposition offers unparalleled performance and unmatched consumer success”.
The LG G3, which tied the iPhone 6, was described as “Affordable excellence with winning design – its edge-to-edge screen offers the best quality mobile viewing experience around today.”
John Hoffman, CEO, GSMA Ltd., said in a statement:
“The GSMA is very proud to be celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Global Mobile Awards, which provide an outstanding platform to recognise world leaders in mobile innovation and diversity. It is an incredible achievement to have been announced as a Global Mobile Award winner today, as the high calibre of entries is a true reflection of the dynamic, creative and inventive thinking that will drive our industry towards the next 20 years.”
As for the ‘Best Mobile Tablet’, that went to the Microsoft Surface Pro 3, beating out Apple’s iPad, while the ‘Best Wearable Mobile Technology’ category went to Motorola’s Moto 360 smart watch (we expect Apple Watch to take this award next year, right?).
