According to a new report from The Star, an Alberta-based pot producer has launched a mobile app to make it easier to purchase medical marijuana.

Aurora Cannabis’ Cam Battley said the idea for the app was to give customers the same service as major online retailers. In a statement, Battley said:

“As far as we know, it is the first legal app for Android and Apple for federally-approved legal medical cannabis. The fact is that people live on their phones and tablets. They use them to shop for everything from consumer products and health products to medicine. It is an acknowledgment of the reality of how people operate today.”

The app allows clients to register with their Aurora accounts, which will give them access to their own files and records. In turn, they will then be able to order the right product for their needs. The order screen shows a picture of the product, the description, and the price per gram.

A simple click on the “add-to-card” button and customers are ready to checkout, just like any online retail store. The app offers same-day delivery is available in various parts of Alberta and the company is offering free delivery for orders above five grams.

Eric Morrissette, a Health Canada spokesman, said that their department sees no issues with the Aurora Cannabis app.

Update: The app is not approved for the App Store of course, so you need to install it via their instructions below, which involves installing–and approving–a profile on your device.

We do not endorse this app, but if you’re willing to take the risk, the instructions from Aurora are below:

HOW TO INSTALL THE APP

Step 1: Tap the download link to install the app

Step 2: Open Device Settings

Step 3: Tap General

Step 4: Scroll down and tap Device Management (called Profiles in some versions)

Step 5: Tap Aurora Cannabis Inc

Step 6: Tap Trust “Aurora Cannabis Inc”

This just lets apps made by us run on your iPhone from outside the App Store and doesn’t give us any other special access.
