Bose Smart Speakers and Sound Bars Get AirPlay 2 Support

Bose

In an announcement via its support forums this week, Bose has quietly confirmed that it has started rolling out AirPlay 2 support to three of its smart speakers and sound bars via an automatic over-the-air (OTA) software update (via 9to5Mac).

We’re excited to announce that AirPlay 2 is now available on your Smart Speakers and Soundbars! As many of you know, AirPlay 2 lets you stream music, podcasts and audio for video from any Apple device to your Bose product (including Apple Music!).

According to Bose, the products getting AirPlay 2 functionality include the Home Speaker 500, Soundbar 500, and Soundbar 700. As for users of Bose’s SoundTouch speakers, the company says it is still working on AirPlay 2 functionality with no estimated rollout date:

We know many of our SoundTouch customers are also eager for AirPlay 2 functionality on their speakers, and while today’s announcement only applies to our smart speakers and soundbars, rest assured we are still working on bringing the feature to SoundTouch as well.

Bose’s update comes just a few days after Yamaha announced its AirPlay 2 plans. As of now, however, Apple’s AirPlay 2 webpage, which lists speakers that will or already support the feature, does not mention any Bose product. You can view the full list at this link.
