Coast Capital Savings is warning its credit union members of phishing scams, circulating via text message and email. Messages claim to be from the credit union, but of course are fake, in an effort to extra personal banking data and information.
The credit union writes:
We’re sharing this important message to make you aware of a fraudulent email and text that are currently circulating claiming to be from Coast Capital Savings.
Please be advised that Coast Capital Savings would NEVER send you a link via text or email to request your account number, password, debit card number, Social Insurance Number, date of birth, or identification. If you do get an email or text requesting this information, DO NOT click any links or provide any information. Learn more about how to protect yourself from this type of fraud.
Members who fell for the phishing scam and relayed banking information are being told to “please visit a Coast Capital branch immediately to change your personal access code.”
Headquartered in Surrey, BC, Coast Capital Savings is one of the largest credit unions in Canada with over 564,000 members, as of September 2018, according to Canadian Credit Union Association data.
