Apple Set to Release 16-Inch MacBook Pro in September: IHS

Apple might be adding its biggest MacBook Pro yet to the lineup later this year.

While famed Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently claimed that the “all-new” laptop will unlikely show up until 2020 or 2021, IHS Market analyst Jeff Lin expects the 16in MacBook to be unveiled in September alongside the iPhone 11.

According to Lin’s prediction (via Forbes), the laptop would feature an LG panel with 3,072 x 1,920 pixels and go into mass production in September. Currently, Apple offers 13- and 15-inch MacBook Pros, in addition to its 12-inch MacBook and 13-inch MacBook Air. It would be the first plus-sized laptop since the 17-inch MacBook Pro was discontinued in 2012.

“We foresee that Apple will release a new product [at the] Sep’19 Apple event if there’s no unexpected development issue,” Lin said.

The report also suggests the 13.3-inch MacBook Pro (non-touch bar) and the last year’s MacBook Air will receive CPU upgrades. In May, Apple updated the 13-inch and the 15-inch MacBook Pro models with touch bar with new processor options.



While there currently aren’t many details about the new MacBook Pro, the fact is if Apple ends up launching the model, it will have the biggest display in the MacBook lineup. It’s safe to assume the laptop will feature high-end hardware components for 3D modelling, and video and audio production workflows. It isn’t yet clear just how many variants we’ll see, or what sort of price point it would start at.

Earlier this month, Apple registered seven new MacBook models with the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC). It’s possible that a 16-inch MacBook Pro could be among the new models.
