IKEA TRÅDFRI Smart Lighting Gains HomeKit Support in Canada

IKEA has a smart lighting solution called TRÅDFRI, which offers various light bulbs, motion sensors, dimming kits and remotes. This lineup of smart lighting hardware normally is controlled with the IKEA TRÅDFRI iOS app, but HomeKit support has finally arrived.

While news of IKEA TRÅDFRI HomeKit support has been spreading across the web, Canadian users are also seeing support too.

The TRÅDFRI iOS app gained an update earlier this week which added HomeKit integration, meaning users can now use Siri to control their IKEA TRÅDFRI lights and the Home app. For those with an Apple TV 4/4K or iPad acting as a HomeKit hub, you will also be able to control these smart bulbs and more when you’re away from home.

iPhone in Canada reader Andrew notes once he launched the IKEA TRÅDFRI iOS app, he had to re-register for it. Once that was completed, the app prompted him to say HomeKit and Alexa were now supported. The app then provides the HomeKit code, which users will use to register in the Home iOS app.

The TRÅDFRI hub is also visible in the Home iOS app when you go to add it as accessory. Andrew says the integration “works great, just like Philips Hue integration.”

For those looking to setup HomeKit lighting, the IKEA TRÅDFRI line up offers good value, as bulbs start at $9.99 and prices max out at $39.99 CAD for the dimming kit (bulb + remote).

Let us know in the comments if you’ve integrated IKEA TRÅDFRI hardware with HomeKit.
