New Leak Suggests 2019 iPad Pro With Triple-Lens Camera System
Apple could be planning to refresh its iPad Pro tablet, adding the same camera components as the new iPhone 11 lineup.
The iPad Pro is a very fast and feature-rich tablet, but it does fall short in the camera department when compared to the latest iPhones. If a leaked image is to be believed, Apple is set to fix that with the next refresh of the hardware.
According to a new leak from Sonny Dickson (via The Verge), an image purported to be a mock-up of the next iPad Pro model includes a square block on the back of the tablet housing three cameras, suggesting Apple is preparing to bring the same camera setup found on the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max to its Pro tablets.
The photo shows the rear of the device with three cameras and an LED flash in a square configuration similar to that of the iPhone 11 Pro. Dickson notes that there is no cover on the cameras in this dummy though, although that will surely change for the final model:
One thing that is notable about the mockup is that it lacks the glass surface covering the three camera lenses. Whether this indicates something unique about the iPad’s version of the new camera hardware or is just a minor omission in a device intended to showcase the final physical form of the device remains to be seen.
The existing iPad Pro uses a single 12-megapixel camera with 5x digital zoom, meaning this would count as a major upgrade for the camera capabilities and, as I’m sure Apple is hoping, enough of an incentive for existing iPad Pro owners to decide to upgrade.
If the leaked image is legit, get ready for the barrage of criticism about the appearance of the square-shaped camera module. For those who care more about practicality than aesthetics, the three-camera setup could enable 4K video so iPad Pro users can shoot and edit high-res videos directly from their tablet.
