Apple’s iPhone 5 Battery Replacement Program Live in Canada, Worldwide

Last week Apple launched its iPhone 5 battery replacement program for the U.S. and as of today the program is now live in Canada and for the rest of the world (last week the page stated the worldwide launch would take place on August 29).

According to the company, if your device qualifies for a replacement you’ll get a new battery free of charge:

Apple has determined that a very small percentage of iPhone 5 devices may suddenly experience shorter battery life or need to be charged more frequently. The affected iPhone 5 devices were sold between September 2012 and January 2013 and fall within a limited serial number range.

If your iPhone 5 is experiencing these symptoms and meets the eligibility requirements noted below, Apple will replace your iPhone 5 battery, free of charge.

How to check to see if your iPhone 5 qualifies for a battery replacement? Easy.

1. On your device, go to Settings > General > About to get your iPhone 5 serial number.

2. Visit this page and submit your serial number.

I purchased my iPhone 5 during pre-order from one of the carriers. Mine does quality by entering my serial number into the apple page. And I’ve been feeling that my battery life isn’t that great these days. It has been 2 years though which I would have assumed was just normal wear and tear. I charge every night so that would be over 600 charging cycles on this battery. I’m not sure how many charge cycles these are rated for.

I wonder if they’re taking the time to change out the battery on the spot or are they handing you a refurb and taking yours? Why are they making you factory reset your phone before you can get a battery replacement? I wouldn’t mind at all getting a whole new refurb out of this deal. Would certainly increase resale value without all the nicks around my bezel (I have a black, it makes them much more obvious). I’d be able to sell virtually a brand new 5 when I get the 6 next month!

It almost sounds like they will just be replacing the phone instead of just the battery, hence the factory reset to ensure your data is no longer on the device. We’ll find out soon once the first swaps come in. Keep us updated, this is a great program for those that qualify.

i am definitely curious as well, i am 3 hours away from an apple store, so will probably be a month or so before i go in for a replacement battery. i too have scuffs from a drop on the side so if its a complete refurb, i will be happy and selling it will be easier.

OK guys here the answer i had my appointment today for two iphone 5.

They only change your battery after running a diagnostic test to be sure that your battery is dead. Replacement take around 1 hour and they give you back your old phone ;-(

They ask you to backup your data because something can go wrong when they fix your battery (break logic board)

They refuse to change my power button even if i was eligible, anyway in the process they also replace my screen because they break it !

Have my appointment setup for 4:50 PM tomorrow, my batter life is ridiculous these days. I wake up at 6AM, drive to work and by 7:30AM (without even using my phone) it displays at 60% batter remaining… i use it for a little bit and when it shows roughly 40% battery remaining it shuts down and requires charging before it will start back up.

I called Apple support on Friday to get my phone replaced. I selected the mail method since there’s no Apple store near where I live. The guy is super helpful. Because their system wasn’t set up for Canada yet, he gave me his direct line and days he’s working so I can call him directly over the weekend.

Apparently all of GTA is out of battery replacements. I went in and they checked my phone for the condition and eligibility. They ordered a battery for me and will notify me when it’s ready. It’s an on site battery swap once it comes in
