Leaker Claims Upcoming MacBook Pro to See Price Hike, With 14- and 16-Inch Models Featuring Same Performance

A new leak claims that Apple’s rumoured mini-LED MacBook Pro will feature the same performance in both its 14-inch and 16-inch models, with the 14-inch MacBook Pro set to be more expensive than the current 13-inch model.

According to leaker “Dylandkt” (via MacRumors), the MacBook Pro 14 will see a “notable increase in price” over its 13-inch predecessor. The leaker did not give any clue as to what sort of price rise to expect, but from the sound of it, we could see a sizable bump.

“It’s comforting to note that both MacBook Pro’s that are coming this fall will have the same chip and the same performance,” the leaker explained. “It’s definitely a win for those who like to opt for the smaller size but expect a notable increase in price for the 14 inches over the 13 inches.”

Multiple reports indicate that Apple plans to announce two new mini-LED MacBooks a new 16-inch MacBook Pro and a smaller 14-inch model, a new form-factor for the company. Apple is expected to debut a new design that will feature a flatter chassis, the aforementioned display upgrade, and a new version of the M1 chip that’s faster than the current model.

Aside from the assertions regarding the MacBook Pro’s price, Dylandkt also alleges that both the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros will use the same M1X chip and thus offer similar performance.

While this is in line with the current MacBook lineup, where both the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro 13 use the same M1 chip, it is an unusual claim in that Apple will find it harder to separate the MacBook Pro 16 as the more powerful flagship laptop in its MacBook range. Traditionally, the larger laptop has offered more powerful components than its smaller counterpart in order to satisfy more demanding users.

Apple is also apparently planning to ditch the Touch Bar but will bring back MagSafe charging, HDMI, and SD card support. If rumours of beefy Apple silicon and the rest are true, the next mini-LED MacBook Pro might just be the best MacBook ever made.
