What’s New in iOS 11.1 Beta 2: 3D Touch App Switcher is Back and More [VIDEO]

Apple this morning released iOS 11.1 beta 2 for developers and the update brings back one important feature removed in iOS 11: 3D Touch multitasking.

That’s right, the 3D Touch app switcher disappeared for users with an iPhone 6s or newer when iOS 11 was released. According to Apple executive Craig Federighi, he noted the company had to “temporarily drop support for this gesture due to a technical constraint,” but noted it would be coming back in an upcoming update—and here it is.

The return of 3D Touch quick app switching in iOS 11.1 beta 2 works as follows:

  • Swipe the left screen edge to the right to jump to the next app
  • 3D Touch the left side bring up the entire app switcher

Also new in iOS 11.1 beta are emojis from Unicode 11, which Apple reiterated was coming, while according to YouTube channel EverythingApplePro, bugs with Reachability have been fixed and Portrait mode lag has also been squashed.
