WhatsApp Rolls Out Multi-Device Support for All iOS and Android Users

WhatsApp has finally started rolling out multi-device support for both Android and iOS.

The new addition will allow users to run WhatsApp on four linked devices without the need for a smartphone connection, explains a MacRumors report.

The feature allows secondary devices such as computers send and receive messages on WhatsApp even when the primary smartphone associated with the account is offline, as each secondary device linked to a WhatsApp account communicates with WhatsApp servers independently now, while WhatsApp Web used to connect the computer to the primary smartphone that would then communicate with WhatsApp servers.

After your devices are linked, messages can be sent and received through the WhatsApp desktop app or web-based service and your phone no longer needs to stay online, although it is currently unable to delete messages or conversation threads from a linked device .

It’s worth noting that you can’t send messages or calls via the web, desktop, or portal to users who have an outdated version of WhatsApp on their phone, and you can only have one phone connected to your WhatsApp account at a time. Personal calls and messages remain end-to-end encrypted across all devices.

If you don’t use your phone for more than 14 days, your linked devices will be disconnected. Also, with the feature still in beta, WhatsApp warns that it could affect the performance and quality of its service, although users can exit beta at any time.

If you wish to use the new WhatsApp feature, you will have to enable multi-device support from the app’s settings. All you have to do is launch the WhatsApp app on your iPhone and then select Settings > Linked Devices > Multi-Device Beta > Join Beta. Once you do this, you will be able to use multiple devices with the same WhatsApp account.
