WhatsApp Rolls Out New Options for Privacy Control Settings

In its continued effort to keep users safe while using the platform, Meta-owned WhatsApp announced last week some new features and options for privacy control settings that you can adjust as you see fit.

Updated WhatsApp privacy settings allow you to select who from your contact list can see your Profile Photo, About, and Last Seen status.

Adjust your privacy settings to control who sees your information.

  • Everyone: Your last seen, profile photo, about, or status will be available to all WhatsApp users.
  • My Contacts: Your last seen, profile photo, about, or status will be available to your contacts from your address book only.
  • My Contacts Except…: Your last seen, profile photo, about, or status will be available to your contacts from your address book, except those you exclude.
  • Nobody: Your last seen, profile photo, about, or status won’t be available to anyone.

WhatsApp is the current 2nd-most downloaded app in the Social Networking category in Apple’s App Store.

They don’t seem to get it, it’s not my contacts that I want privacy from, it’s Whatsapp/Facebook/Meta and that’s why I deleted Whatsapp.

Yup. Whenever one of the big spyware companies talks about privacy settings, they are assuming everyone is a moron and that doesn’t realize they still spying on them. Other users are doing the spying.

Then again, so many people fall into the trap, I guess they made a good bet.
