App Review: asapHockey for iPhone

Are you a hockey fan? Hockey fans and iPhone converge today with asapHockey, an iPhone/iPod Touch app that displays all the Twitter information about your favorite teams.

asapHockey by Charismedia

asapHockey gathers all of the relevant Twitter updates for your chosen hockey team(s) and displays that information to you in realtime. Everything is integrated into the app, so you do not need to be a member of Twitter in order to view the updates.

Features 2/2

asapHockey lets you choose from a variety of hockey leagues to begin your update aggregation. Leagues range from the NHL, to the WHL, to the ECHL. Within each league you can choose multiple teams that you want to receive information about.

You can view the Twitter feeds one at a time or mark the feed as a favorite for quick reference. As information is updated somewhere about your chosen team(s), it is immediately visible on the feed(s). You get immediate updates on scores, reports, player information, and more. It is like an RSS reader for hockey news, but faster.

Within the league selection, asapHockey has over 160 major and minor teams to choose from, each receiving fast and instant updates via multiple aggregated Twitter feeds. The user does not need to “follow” anyone or attempt to find Twitter users that post information since the app does it all automatically. Any and all Twitter updates about your selected team is displayed.

Controls & Navigation 1.5/2

I really like how easy it is to navigate between teams and receive instant information. Choosing a league and team is done within seconds and then the app displays all the relevant team data on a single page.

The user can flick through the updates or easily move to another team feed by selecting another team from the league choices. For even faster navigation, making use of the favorites list is the way to go. Throw in five of your favorite teams into one easily readable list and navigation of updates becomes quicker and easier!

The only thing that bothered me is there does not seem to be a main button somewhere to access the favorites or “myTeams” menu. Instead you have to tap on the in-app settings button and then on “myTeams”, which becomes annoying after a while.

As information is updated in the favorites list, it is sorted in descending order by time and each new news item is visible right from the favorites list. This means that you do not need to move between team feeds to see the most recently updated information!

Value 1/1

asapNavigation provides a great value for hockey fans all over the globe. The app makes it so easy to quickly follow your favorite team(s) and get information, sometimes faster than the official reporting websites!

The app offers easy navigation, instant up to date information, and its free but that zero dollar price tag is achieved via an in-app advertising bar which I found to be very unobtrusive and not a problem at all.

If you’re a hockey fan, asapHockey is the app to have for instant information!

asapHockey is scored a 4.5 out of 5.

asapHockey is available on the iTunes App Store for free.
