Epic Zen Garden, the Ultimate Showcase of Apple’s Metal API, Gets Even Better

Epic Zen Garden was first shown on stage at WWDC 2014 to demonstrate Apple’s new Metal graphics API. Epic Games built the app using their Unreal Engine 4 to show off how Metal’s efficiency when it comes to rendering graphics, with some scenes showing as many as 3500 individual butterflies simultaneously.

The free app has received its first update (after debuting in September) to bring user interface improvements for an overall better experience. You’ll want to try this out on your new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus if you haven’t already.

• Added exit icons for each activity area

Fixed a few crash bugs

Epic Zen Garden is only supported on A7 devices or newer, so you’ll have to own one of the following for it to work: iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 2, or iPad mini 3. If you try it on an unsupported device, the app won’t run.
