Home Radio Canada for iPhone

If you are missing the feature of an AM/FM radio on your iPhone, check out Home Radio Canada for iPhone.

Home Radio Canada by Dataphase Ltd

Home Radio Canada brings some of the best AM/FM radio stations in Canada to your iPhone. Since the iPhone does not have a built-in tuner, Home Radio Canada is a fantastic alternative.

While there are other radio apps out there, I like Home Radio Canada because it focuses exclusively on Canada with many local stations.

The app includes news, sports, music, and general Canadian content from the following stations:

  • 680 NEWS (Toronto)
  • CBC Radio One
  • CBC Radio 2
  • Radio Montreal 1280AM (Montreal)
  • Rock 101 (Vancouver)
  • 102.1 the EDGE (Toronto)
  • 99.3 The Fox (Vancouver)
  • The Team 1260 (Alberta)
  • Virgin 95.3 (Vancouver)
  • Virgin Radio 99.9 (Toronto)
  • The FAN 590 (Toronto)
  • The Wolf 104.9FM (Regina)
  • CHED 630 (Edmonton)
  • CFRB (Toronto)
  • CHIN 100.7FM (Toronto)
  • CHOM 97.7FM (Montreal)
  • Q107.1 (Toronto)
  • K-Rock 97.3 (Edmonton)
  • CJAY 92.1 (Calgary)
  • 93.7 JRFM (Vancouver)
  • KISS 105.3 (Ottawa)
  • Power 97 (Winnipeg)
  • CJOB 680AM (Winnipeg)
  • The Goat 106.1FM (Alberta)
  • Rock 94.3FM (Thunder Bay)
  • Power 93.7FM (Medicine Hat)
  • CJWW 600AM (Saskatoon)
  • CKAC 730AM (Montreal)
  • KG 95.5FM (Red Deer)
  • CKJS 810 (Winnipeg)
  • Radio Energie 98.9 (Quebec City)
  • CKNW (Vancouver)
  • CKRM 980 (Regina)
  • CKRY 105.1FM (Calgary)
  • Rock 95.7FM (Barrie)
  • CKUA 94.9FM (Alberta)
  • 100.3 The Q (Victoria)

The app can stream radio either via WiFi or the iPhone cellular data connection and the in-app settings menu includes a toggle to enable the data connection. Sound quality over WiFi or 3G is fantastic and in my experience had no breaks in the stream. Although do note that the app must remain open to stream, which may change with the 4.0 iPhone OS.

Home Radio Canada includes a favorites list where users can tag their most listened to stations for quick access later and also features in-app volume controls. Organizing the large list of stations is done by using Cover Flow or List view and there is a small toggle to navigate between the two options.

Since Home Radio Canada is constantly growing its stations, the app developer is taking station requests, so if you have a favorite station and it is not on the list, send them a request!

Home Radio Canada is available in the App Store for $1.99. There is also a Lite version that only has three stations (CBC Radio One, 102.1 the Edge, Virgin Radio 99.9).
