Apple Retail Stores Busy With ‘Secret’ Activities Next Week Before WWDC

According to reports, some Apple Retail Store employees may be working late during the days leading up to Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) next week.

The report comes from an Apple Store in Texas where Back-of-House (Apple inventory staff) employees and Specialists (Apple sales staff) have reportedly been asked to work late starting June 5. The employees do not know what the extra work is related to, but some have speculated that it may be a change of in-store signage or product re-alignment.

However the requests to work late could also be a coincidence and may be related to Apple’s back-to-school promotion which is scheduled to begin in June.

In other separate claims, some Apple Retail Stores saw Apple network engineers visit locations unannounced carrying mysterious “black boxes”. These representatives had access to networking systems in the Apple Store and local servers.

While it is unknown what the networking work was related to, this type of system work could be maintenance or preparation for something new in the stores. For example, Apple had engineers significantly update store systems when Apple introduced Smart Signs last year.
