Fido Loyalty Offer: $45/4GB Plan in Response to Public Mobile, Freedom Mobile

Looks like have wireless tit-for-tat responses right now, involving Public Mobile (Telus), Freedom Mobile (Shaw) and now Fido (Rogers).

Freedom Mobile has a 2GB bonus data for select plans, starting at $40 per month with 4GB of his speed data and unlimited Canada-wide talk.

Public Mobile last week launched their own promo, targeting Freedom Mobile customers specifically, offering their $40/4GB unlimited province-wide calling plan ($38/month after Autopay).

Now, Fido retentions appears to have launched a promo plan, offering a $45/4GB plan with unlimited nationwide calling, in response to both Public Mobile and Freedom Mobile. This offer isn’t as good as the $40/4GB response Fido offered last year, but the $5 extra offers unlimited nationwide calling versus province-wide.

According to RFD, those calling Fido to cancel their service with the retentions department will be offered this loyalty plan, especially if you mention Public Mobile/Freedom Mobile as a reason for leaving. The plan is being offered for 24 months.

For Fido customers in Ontario, an equivalent BYOD plan would be $65 for 3GB of data, or $85 for 5GB of data (and $115 for 9GB). So $45 with 4GB of data appears to be a decent ‘deal’ compared to regular prices.

Let us know if you’re going to call in and try to get this loyalty offer from Fido.

does this $45 fido plan include 1000 minutes of included international calling to the 8 countries like the $40 plan from last year?

Called Fido to cancel unless they matched Videotron’s Flash sale that ended today. I got 8GB’s of data, unlimited nationwide calling, unlimited circle calling, international text, picture & video messages from Canada to Canadian, U.S. & international mobile numbers, caller ID, voicemail, call waiting, conference call & they gave me 2GB’s more of loyalty bonus data for 24 months for a total of 10GB all for $56.46 plus tax. I had to change my number to a Quebec area code number but I paid $89.60 for 6GB a month on a grandfathered plan that was basically the same as what I got in the new plan. SWEET!

Sadly, we in BC can’t use Videotron leverage…

Sadly I know all too well. I used to live in BC up until last year. I felt your pain too. It’s nice to be able to use that leverage after 16 years of suffering with a BC plan.

When will Rogers retentions match this plan?

I have the 34$ Black Friday deal from 2015 and the girlfriend has the 40$ equivalent plan from 2016 (pulse, Canada unlimited and 2 GB). I poked Fido via Facebook Messenger and they gave us 2 GB of bonus data per line for 24 months at no extra cost. I didn’t threaten to leave or anything – just said we were sometimes tight on data. This is a Québec plan.

If you mentioned Fido and Public Mobile in the context, Virgin Mobile will match it for $40/month with the same plan feature.

Call the regular customer service line then ask to speak to retentions.

I have been a Fido customer for many many many years, and have been on a $56 plan for the past 4-5 years with 2 gigabytes of data, full voicemail and visual voicemail, unlimited text, unlimited calling in Canada Etc. I called Fido retention-trained csr’s to request that they match Freedom’s $50 6gb plan, but the best retention plans they would offer me were: 1.) $50/month + 3 GB data, unlimited canada-wide calling + Unlimited text + lite voicemail, but on this plan I would only get 3 voicemail messages in my inbox instead of my current 35 and no visual voicemail, and would have to upgrade the new voicemail package by $5 to get these options back, making the actual plan $55 per month. I would also be giving up getting an additional gigabyte per month of data for $10 on overage, and instead would have to pay $5 for each 250 megabytes over. 2.) The second plan they offered was the $65 pulse plan normally with 3 GB of data, but they offered to add another 2 GB of data for 24 months for a total of 5GB over 2 years, but the data would drop back down to 3 gigabytes after 2 years and the price would remain at $65. I feel like neither of these offers are even close to the $50/6 GB or $59/8GB offerings from freedom, and I think they should be able to do better than this…am I taking crazy pills? Has anyone heard of our gotten any better retention offers in the 50 to $60 range for 6-8GB GB?
