1.) BRITISH COLUMBIA/ALBERTA REGION OFFERS

———–

iPhone 3G/3GS without data (3 year contract)

If you are one of the people that want an iPhone 3G/3GS without data and prefer to use the Wi-Fi feature, then really any voice plan is fine for you. You will want a plan that will give you enough minutes so you do not end up paying overage fees. Currently there is a plan called the “Employee Purchase Plan”. The plan is $25.00 per month and includes the following:

  • 200 Daytime Minutes
  • Unlimited Evenings & Weekends at 9PM

The Total

If you get just the EPP plan alone, your monthly total with all fees and taxes (in the BC/ALBERTA REGION) will be as follows:

$25 EPP plan total: $30.89 in BC and $28.96 in AB

The iPhone 3G from Rogers/Apple Stores will cost you $299 (8GB) and $349 (16GB) under this plan. The iPhone 3GS will cost you $399 (16GB) and $499 (32GB) under this plan.

iPhone 3G/3GS with add-on data (3 year contract)

For the folks that want to utilize their iPhone 3G/3GS, you have a few more options. What it comes down to is you may choose a Voice and Data plan combo (where they come together) or separate the two and choose a Voice plan and add a Data plan option.

As mentioned previously, you can still pick up the $25.00 EPP Plan and then for a data option, the best value is the iPhone Data Value Pack. This pack is $40 and gives you:

$40 iPhone Data Value Pack (3 year contract)

  • 500MB of Data
  • Caller Display
  • Visual Voicemail
  • Unlimited sent/received Text Messages
  • Unlimited sent/received Picture and Video Messages
  • WhoCalled service

If you need more minutes or more data, you simply increase your plan, but that does mean increasing the amount you pay. (In other words, you do not have to choose what I just recommended. There are many VOICE plans to choose from but only ONE $40 iPhone Data Value Pack).

The Total

If you get the EPP plan with the $40 iPhone Data Value pack, your monthly total with all fees and taxes (in the BC/ALBERTA REGION) will be as follows:

$25 EPP plan with iPhone Data Value pack total: $75.69 in BC and $70.96 in AB

The iPhone 3G from Rogers/Apple Stores will cost you $99 (8GB) and $149 (16GB) under this plan. The iPhone 3GS will cost you $199 (16GB) and $299 (32GB) under this plan.

  • Caller Display
  • Unlimited sent/received Text Messages

    Thanks for the updates.

    My $62+tax Fido plan includes:

    200 minutes + Unlimited Evenings & Weekends + Evenings start at 5pm + Unlimited incoming calls + Visual Voicemail/Caller ID + 6GB Internet

  • dannewhouse

Wow! How long ago did you sign up for that contract? Because I can't see anything that looks remotely close to such a good deal. Did Fido change their plans since you signed?

I'm trying to decide right now wether to go with the Fido plans or the Telus plans

  • Mark

    Hey,

For the 50 dollar mega plans, you can pay an extra 5 dollars to double ur data to a gig

  • ML

I wrote about it back in June when the 3GS came out, you can search the archives. In summary: I was with Fido on a 3-year contract with 3G. 3GS came out, I called Fido and told them that I were going to move to Rogers (by doing that, you don't pay the early termination fee). They said to hold my horses, transferred to customer relations (customer retention) and those guys offered me to stay, gave me the new super cool plan (that saved me $15 a month), told me that I could break the contract by paying just $200 and then get 3GS. And so I did…

    $299 = new phone
    $200 = cancellation fee
    = $450 w/tax that I paid.

then… -$350 for my old 3G that I sold the same day (didn't want to wait, so I could have gotten more for it back then)
-$65 that I had in Fido dollars

total paid out of my pocket: $35 for the new 3GS phone 🙂

now, with $15 savings with my new plan, I am breaking even in 2.5 months and then start “saving”. 9.5 months * $15 = $142.50 in savings by next June.

    that's my story.

P.S. you can only negotiate with them IF you are an existing customer (and have a history of more than 6 months). then the company is willing to keep you and offer you good deal otherwise not advertised. good luck!

  • Wicked tip!

    Thanks!

    Thanks for the answer :o)

  • mcfilmmakers

I can't seem to get the iPhone without a data plan online…. do i have to do this in person?

  • Go to an apple store, that's the easiest way

  • mcfilmmakers

After talking to Rogers, they flat out refused to give me a voice plan only with iPhone, let alone at the 399$ price for the 16GB 3GS. I spoke to bell for the same issue (Uber 25) and they said to ask again in 2 weeks as right now, only iPhone combo plans are available.

    Collusion much?

Looks like the facts given here are false since the reps won't budge beyond the combo plans.

  • The facts are not false.
Rogers reps make commission on data and they can choose whether to
sell you an iPhone or not.

Are you near any apple stores?

  • mcfilmmakers

I am near one, but how will I be able to activate the iPhone if rogers goes data crazy every time? What I mean is, how does going to Apple go around the problem?

  • ML

When I was getting the iPhone in June, there was NO way to get it w/o a data plan. Same thing was in July 2008. This is FIDO. Even when you buy at Apple, they use FIDO's on-line activation system which forces them to add the data plan. Maybe things changed since then but I doubt.

  • mcfilmmakers

In response to ML, this is what I'm thinking which is why I wonder how going to Apple will change anything.

  • Cause apple can activate and sell you the phone

  • mcfilmmakers

They can activate it only with a given plan, which the providers won't do without a data plan.
