Apple’s 2014 World AIDS Day (RED) Fundraising Raises Over $20 Million

During the last week of November, Apple announced the launch of their ‘Apps for RED’ campaign, part of their 2014 World AIDS Day campaign. The fundraiser partnered with numerous developers to help contribute to the fight against AIDS via proceeds donated from app purchases and in-app purchases.

Re/code reports an email sent out by CEO Tim Cook to staff has announced the company’s donation for the quarter will be over $20 million in (PRODUCT) RED fundraising alone:

“I’m thrilled to announce that our total donation for this quarter will be more than $20 million — our biggest ever — bringing the total amount Apple has raised for (PRODUCT) RED to over $100 million,” Cook wrote. “The money we’ve raised is saving lives and bringing hope to people in need. It’s a cause we can all be proud to support.”

Apple also donated partial proceeds from sales on Black Friday and Cyber Monday in the U.S. towards RED as well, which helped contribute to the record $20 million raised for the quarter.
