iPhone 8 Fast Charging Works With Several Third-Party USB-C Power Adapters

According to a recent support document published by Apple, iPhone 8 and 8 Plus users do not need one of Apple’s USB-C power adapters to utilize the fast charging capabilities of the new device.

The company said that the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus can be fast charged with any USB-C power adapter that supports the USB Power Delivery specification. However, Apple says that an official USB-C to Lightning cable is still needed to make this work.

Unfortunately, this cable is not included with your iPhone. For a one meter cable, Apple charges $35 and $49 for a two meter cable in Canada.

Fast charging on the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus enables you to regain 50 percent battery life within 30 minutes.

iPhone 6, 6s & 7 could charge faster if you used an iPad charger. Anyone know if this is still the case with the 8 & X?

Turn airplane mode on while charing will speed up the process. Very handy when you’re traveling

So if I have a Aukey 20000 mAh powerbank with quick charger 3.0, does that mean i don’t need a adapter ? I will surely need a cable but will the powerbank charge it as fast charge ?

Is it USB-C PD? I am not sure the Quick Charger 3.0 is compatible with iPhones…

  • I’m more curious about the long-term effect of fast-charging on the phone’s battery. Is it completely innocuous and just the latest charging technology? Or does it eat away just a bit more at the battery’s life?
