App Review: Facehack for iPhone

Have you ever wanted to easily turn a photo into a unique profile picture for your Facebook profile? If so, Facehack is your app!

Facehack by AirGini Inc.

Facehack is a picture editor for Facebook profile pages. The app gives you the tools to take a photo and turn it into a unique profile picture right from your iPhone.

There are three steps to designing your picture:

1.) Pick a Photo

2.) Clear photo background with finger gestures

3.) One-touch upload to Facebook

When picking a photo, you can choose either an existing photo or take a photo using the iPhone camera from within the app. From here, you can rotate your photo 360° and/or zoom in and zoom out. Which ever orientation you place your photo, it must be within the gray dotted line (see images below).

Next you have three options; Erase, Unerase, Pan & Zoom. Choosing the “Erase” option allows you to use your finger to erase any part of the photo. By simply swiping your finger on the photo, you will begin to erase it. Choosing the “Unerase” option will have the opposite effect. The “Pan & Zoom” option allows you to move around or zoom into the image so to get in closer to erase more difficult areas of the photo. You can watch a video demonstration here.

Lastly, you can turn on or off a drop-shadow effect to your image, input your Facebook profile credentials and tap connect. Any photos that you have edited will be saved in a “My Facehack” photo album within the app, so you can swap your Facebook profile picture on the fly.

Facehack provides a clean interface and basic photo editing options for modifying your saved or newly taken pictures. The app makes the entire editing process very quick and easy and I really like how Facehack uploads the photo for you. Since the app provides built-in camera functionality, you need not exit the app to take a photo and all of your photos are saved, ready for use, within the app.

Facehack is scored a 4.5 out of 5.

Facehack is available in the iTunes App Store for free for the first 1000 downloads. Afterward it will be available for $0.99.

Ok, so I read your review (which looks crazy positive), but then dug a bit more into the app, and read the customer reviews on the App Store, and let's just say, this app sucks hugely!! We trust you guys to actually review the apps, honestly, and here you're back to pandering. Please take these reviews more seriously.

  • Would you prefer I lie and simply agree with the app store?

I post my views and mine alone and I liked it.

  • edge777

No, that would be silly – and I guess each to their own. Notice I didn't just say App store reviews, but that I dug into it, checked it out, etc. The pictures are deceiving (let's see someone erase those straight lines with their finger). I guess you can just use it to upload pictures to your profile, oh but wait, the Facebook app already does that. I didn't mean any offense, just that it often really seems like you guys positively review the apps you get free promo codes for…

This looks cool, but I have not read any other good reviews on this app. Should probably just try it for myself, I guess.

  • The erasing is tough, but if you use the zoom, it can be done.

But you're right, I do have positive reviews. But you'll notice a
trend, I rarely review something I don't like. In other words, I stay
clear of crap apps which is why you will rarely see a low score per app.

I delete hundreds of app review requests per day because simply said,
    they are garbage.

I only showcase apps that I think are worth it because why waste a
    readers time with garbage applications?

The bottom line is I only review apps/accessories that I like and that
I feel someone else would like. If the product does not meet those two
criteria, it's deleted or thrown away.

In that case, just post the name of the app. It's obviously good and you /never/ review bad apps. It's lazy to review only products that you like. Readers want to know about bad products so they can stay away from them. It shows the creator of the product the problems so that it can be improved. If you're not reviewing bad apps, these reviews are really endorsements.

You never say anything bad about a product or why a product deserved such and such score. Why does Facehack deserve a 4.5/5 and something like DrinkTracker Breathalyzer a 5/5? Facehack sounds perfect by your description and DrinkTracker sounds fun but not too useful. Facehack serves a purpose while DrinkTracker allows a designated driver to track a drunk's BAC. The drinker is obviously not driving so why track BAC?

Your reviews have to be a bit more well rounded to include bad products and they should consider usefulness. It would be good to know the bad points as well as the good and a realistic expectation of use. Facehack sounds great but how often do you need to use it? Would it be worth 99 cents for the occasional profile pic editing? The review is clear that you've used Facehack but it definitely shows that you haven't used it for very long. Some of these good points may be attributed to the novelty of a new app.

Okay, I just tried it. It works exactly as it says it does. Getting your picture just right can be tough, with your finger, buy with the Pan & Zoom and Undo Erase, you can take your time with it. I've always done this with Photoshop, on my Mac, so this is a cool alternative for me.

  • rorypiper

Wow, X1Zero's getting slammed today! If you don't like the reviews, just don't read them. Maybe you guys should take this debate over to the forums?

  • The big thing you're missing is that these reviews are based on my
opinions and mine alone. You should not be only looking here before
you make a decision on buying an app. This blog is but one resource.

If I review something and there is a negative point, I'll announce it.
However, I see no reason why I should waste readers times reviewing
crap apps. People know which apps are bad. Just looking at them in the
    app store is enough.

Lastly, I won't be changing the way I review apps on the whims of you.
If you don't like, browse another blog! That also means, do not bother
entering yourself in any of our contests either.

@Rory: no worries bro. These trolls are easily tracked and dealt
    with 🙂

This app is full of bugs and it works very poorly. When I unerase, my picture comes back in a different place.

    STAY AWAY! STAY FAR AWAY!

Wow is right! If u don't like, then don't read. Simple as that!

    @ edge777 & Tim
Its just an app, chill out. Everyone has there own opinions.
Sounds like if an app review is not properly rated, its the end of the iPhone/app store world LOL
Im sure if u google this game u will find many different reviews which u will disagree with.

    X1Zero does a good job!

edge777 and Tim have taught me to opress the views of others, because their thoughts are not of the same sentiment of my own. I will follow in their footsteps and smack everyone who likes chocolate… Because I don't. Yes I know I am of the minority, but I don't care because my oppinion is the only one that matters in the whole world. Right? I mean that's why I'm the one with the popular blog and X1zero is the one criticizing my well thought out review. Oh wait… That's the other way around!!

My Gawd! Some people are so ignorant!

  • Tim

I'm basing my opinion of the app on the review here. I haven't read any other review of Facehack.

@rorypiper: You just tried it and it's tough to use when the review says it's quick and easy. After reading that it's quick and easy, I find that hard to believe. It looks like the app will work but I doubt I can erase parts of a photo quickly.

I'm not saying the app is crap. I'm only suggesting what I'd like to see in the reviews here. If the writers don't want to take constructive criticism, they don't have to. My point is that these are hardly reviews but endorsements. The rating system is quite useless since everything is highly rated. My opinion is these reviews are a bit misleading in that I don't feel like they are reviews but more of a “hey, check out this cool app I tried”.

Everybody is right that I don't have to read these posts. So I don't really read them and just skim over bits. To make the site better, I'm making suggestions that might help bring in new readers.

  • A really neat way to help me focus on my game and, well….get my friends distracted!
