Okay so by now you’ve probably read about my experiences updating my first gen iPhone from 1.1.4 to 2.0.1 and also jailbreaking my iPhone 3G (2.0.1). Both processes were completed on Windows using WinPwn 2.0.0.4.
So of course after the jailbreak, two of the most important applications are Cydia and Installer 4. Cydia has emerged as the source for apps and themes to customize your iPhone. Installer 4 is still in its beta stage so expect a bit more from it coming soon.
One of the most helpful Cydia apps is MobileSubstrate, which will enable you to make Skype calls over 3G. By using this app with Skype’s $2.95US/month unlimited calling to Canada/USA, you can bypass your carrier’s expensive long distance charges! For example, long distance within Canada costs $0.35/min on Rogers, but Skype will cost you $0.02/min!

if u download a theme from installer and then delete the source that supports it could that cause a problem example make evey function undt the phone icon stop working?
Nope doesnt work like that repos are for reference for installing though u would not be able to update it if there is a new version etc.

No, it will not affect your already installed apps.
But you will not the updates as it is likely that they will be hosted on the same repository

@ iphone fan do u know why the phone function of my iphone froze and crashed every time I pushed the phone icon. I installed the retro dialer theme set file but it didn’t start crashing right away. I noticed the the problem after I removed a couple packages from installer. That’s not say it wasn’t doing it before, that’s just when I noticed. I was still able to make calls through my contacts and I could stil answer calls but that’s it. I couldn’t end calls or speaker phone. Every time I pushed the phone icon the keypad would pop up frozen and then crash a few seconds later. Any ideas?
yeah i also got that its just one of the installer packages… you just need to remove them and thats it
yo same thing happened to me, i had to restore my iphone in order for it to work again :(. then jus jailbreak it again yo and its all good
okay if you downloaded something called Kate on installer, DELETE it. if messed up my call ability. everything should work now.
well, i think the problem i that you downloaded kate . check i you did. my iphone did the same thing and i got really mad but when i removed kate it works perfectly 🙂

the same thing happened to me. If you uninstall Kate’s source it will work properly again. Don’t know why. Just know that fixes the problem.
Yeah same thing happened to me! It should be a disclaimer before you download that KATE package.
Basically I downloaded it and when I would try and use my phone the phone would be frozen…. couldn’t make any calls!!!!! That’s unacceptable for distribution.
I uninstalled Kate and my phone worked again.

They added it to the app store but if you want it free add this source to cydia: cydia.hackulo.us when you added it,install an app called installous and then open it search for your app download it and install it it should work

Alright this is what you do….. You download Quickpwn and install it (reply to me ill tell you how) then you jailbreak with quickpwn. and you will have a good installer and a good cydia it works for me i know this was a bad discription reply to me and ill give yall the good descri[tion

I have a jailbroken 2G iphone and installed version 2.2 … I have some .ipo applications that i got off the internet (not itunes stores) but itunes does not install it. it says itunes cannot verify the application when i trey to sync the phone… ( i copy pasted the application in the applications folder) …. can someone pls help me with this??? thanks a lot!!!
You need 2 have MobileInstalation file cracked…

Then, 2 download all apps, instal Installious..
Or 2 add aps from pc, instal miPatch Firmware (version)
also handy is Crackulous.. It’s 2 change apps 2 cracked apps
You need to install SSH, just search for it in Cydia, and install it.
After that you should be able to install the apps through iTunes.
While I’m here, does anyone know what might be wrong with my Cydia- I am unable to add any sources, and therefore I am doomed to a life without yellowsn0w!
Hello i’m new to the whole iphone thing and i need some help. I want to add nes roms to my iphone via ssh. I managed to download open ssh from cydia but i cannot find BSD subsystem anywhere! I have installer 4.0 and i have tried re installing / refreshing community sources many times and i have added every source i can find in both cydia and installer. I did find out that the apptapp source has BSD but it wont work on installer 4.0. Which source for either cydia or installer had BSD subsystem? Thank you for your help in advanced
Just wanna tell ya- I unlocked my iPhone using USB awhile ago, and when I changed SIM card my Cydia worked like a charm. Must’ve been the operator tricking Cydia or something. Strange, really.
I tried downloading apps on my iPhone 3G from some sources and it keep telling me unable to Decode something something and to check the website….why is this happening? Cant unlocked iPhones download Apps? Or just the jailbroken ones that uses the turbo SIM?
well it looks like i broke cydia when i tried to add the

to my repo list.
it will come up, but crash before anything loads, and i’ve tried respringing and restarting to no avail.
That’s strange, until now there were tens of tousands of downloads.
You should report that to Cydia’s maintainers.
You could add the repository by intalling it from the “Repositories” section in Cydia.
It is published by Cydia’s people.
It’s probably better than adding it manually.

Wow alot of ppl with problems. Makes u wonder if it’s worth it. I have my iPod happily jailbroken firmware 2.2.1 no complaints nock on wood but I wish there were more apps to install even if it cost money cause I’m sure cydia would allow illegal apps unlike apple well good luck to all

Just a note to everyone, you can manually install sources from the Sources category within Cydia. Makes for a problem-free experience.
This (http://www.sourceslist.eu) is a site entirely dedicated to the sources.list for Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Debian, OpenSuse, Fedora. On the site you will find the text version and the debian version. The debian version is automatically updated when you update your distro. (sudo apt-get dist-upgrade)

Aaron, where are you looking for the additional sources?
They’re actually in the categories section if you’d like to add them automatically (I foreget if they’re under “sources” or “repositories”). Otherwise you can add individual sources manually (if you know the repository’s URL) from manage->packages and clicking the upper left corner if memory serves right
I’m sorry, but a lot of that info was incorrect. The additional sources can be found in the “sections” category of cydia in “repositories”. There’s a great one near the top called something along the lines of all repos which adds all but about 4 foriegn sources. To add a repository manually go to manage->sources, select “edit” in the upper right, then “add” in the upper left to input a repository’s URL. It’ll then show up in it’s own user-added section at the top of your package list.

I Just jailbroke my iphone and i downloaded a bunch of things on cydia. Well it used up a lot of space, so i tried to delete some of it. The way your supposed to going into cydia and manage then the app and remove all that but when i do it it doesnt actually take it off my phone or something because it free’s up 0.0 space it even says that. When i download something thats like 1mb and delete it freeing up 0 space i get very confused. I’ve removed so much stuff and still only have 2 gb of space for music pictures and everything eles. Does anybody know why? or how i can get rid of stuff for real? Please
