Rogers Releases New iPhone Data Value Packs

If you were an early adopter of the iPhone 3G in Canada then you paid the price with the original Rogers’ value and data packs. Well, it looks like Rogers has quietly introduced a couple new data value packs that apply to the iPhone 3G and any other cellphone.

Here are the details of the two new data value packs released on November 26th, and are unadvertised on the Rogers website (what’s new?):

$20 Value Pack
10,000 Text Messages
10,000 Multimedia Messages
Caller ID
Visual Voicemail
Who Called
Unlimited Blackberry Internet Service (BIS): Email/Instant Messaging Only

$30 Data Value Pack
10,000 Text Messages
10,000 Multimedia Messages
Caller ID
Visual Voicemail
Who Called
500MB of data: BIS, Windows Mobile, or iPhone

3 Year Agreement is required on both plans plus all data overage protection applies. 500MB of data is valued at $25, so the maximum data overage is $75. Some people who have called in have been able to get a $10 credit towards the $30 data value pack, as part of the hardware rebate program. So try your luck if you decide to call in.

These New Value Packs Can Save you Some Money

If you’re on the $30/6GB data plan, plus the $15 visual voicemail value pack, you can potentially save some money here. How? Well, if you’ve been using less than 500MB/month, you can opt for the $30 data value pack and save yourself $15/month ($180/year). You can easily switch over to these plans from your original value/data plans.

Also, I am surprised that Rogers has introduced 10,000 text messages into these data packs. I text often but I don’t know if I’d ever exceed or meet 10K texts in a month. I would have to send more than 333.33 text messages a day to hit 10K, LOL! Maybe it’s part of the Rogers plan to hook you in to spend a bit more on these value packs.

The big question some of you may be asking right now is: “Should I save $15 but lose 5.5GB of data?” Only you can answer that. If you’re a heavy user, obviously you are relishing at the thought of your 6GB data plan. However if you’ve been using under 500MB a month, this is the data value pack you’ve been waiting for. Personally, I will be sticking with my 6GB data plan because I periodically tether my data plan with PDAnet.

Either way, let me know in the comments if you’ve switched over to one of these new value packs!

Thanks Jasper and Daniel for the heads up on this!

Tough call… I think I might go for the new offer though.
And when did iPhones get MMS!?!?
Or is that just for other smartphones?

There are jailbroken MMS apps, but I’m guessing that it’s meant for other smart phones.

Does this apply to Fido as well?

$15 off but lose 6GB plan? hmmm…. I have a feeling tethering will become uvailable for non-jailbroken phones any day now and Rogers knowing that wants their 6GB plans back. I can think of so many ways to spend $15 a month and not even notice. Tempting to have my iPhone full featured for $47.50 a month + tax and access fees, but I am looking forward to using tethering. I think I will stay with 6GB.

Nice I’m glad I waited and chose to go with no data option. In my opinion it will only get better in the new year. Currently I pay $11 for a value pack with only 125 text messages, no visual voice mail and no data. It is definitely worth it for me to pay $19 more and get all that extra stuff. I hope there comes a day when it gets even cheaper. Any word on fido switching this up too?

Hi= I need some help as I am new to anything but a basic cell phone- dec 17th I got a blackberry w/ $25 student plan and $15 data plan from rogers- now I have an iPhone- tried to cancel the data plan but they say I have a 3 year commitment( or pay $100)-I understand that data plan can not be used with iPhone- I plan on just using wifi- should I just bite it and keep the useless $15 plan- or is there some plan for iPhone that would be worthwhile for me- thanks for any advise-Y

I am going to keep my 6GB of data as well. I actually pay a ridiculous amount of money each month. I have a $30 voice plan, $30/6GB data plan, $15 value pack, so after system access fee and taxes, I end up paying $90/month! However, I’m banking that in the future they will have live streaming TV for the iPhone and then who’s the smart one who kept 6GB! LOL

Hey! You used it! Sweet.
Anyway, I switched over, I don’t use my iPhone for internet that much, except for e-mail, weather, Facebook and the occasional surfing, YouTube and the like. I’ve never exceeded 300mb, so it was a no brainer for me! I use my laptop when at home AND at school, and the only times I actually need internet are when I’m at a party or lost or what-not, but I’m always in WiFi so, don’t really need that much! Plus, now I don’t have to worry about overusing my texting (heavy txter) and I have all the comforts of the $20 VVM! The price is amazing too, 25+20=45, saving of 15 bux a month! I save myself some money (plan totalling about 80 after tax/saf/911, where my old plan was 100)

Would switching to the new value pack pack require me to cancel the $30/6GB add-on (therefore paying the penalty fee) or can I just switch over to the new value pack worry-free?

Jasper

Switch worry-free, since you aren’t cancelling anything, just changing.
well thats the impression I got from the rep

@ Archana, what’s $15 a month to you? That’s the make it or break it question. I bet you a million $ they will not let you get 6GB plan back after you cancel it. Am I wrong?

Jasper
Jasper

MMS is for windows mobile phones and blackberrys. Instead of that, iPhone users get VVM while the other two get enhanced voicemail + 10,000mms

Jasper
Jasper

@ Archana
That $15 is the make-it-or-break-it deal. If you’re going to teether, stay with the 6Gb. Personally, I won’t tether since I usually am in a WiFi area when I have my laptop with me, and if they charge, wouldn’t mind paying. That’s what it comes down to, what you’re gonna use that space for. If you need it, stay with that deal since it IS an amazing deal to begin with. If you don’t, switch to save yourself the money.
In your case, you say you’re going to teether, so I’d stay with the 6Gb plan.

Hey. Thanx. I guess I will stay with the 6GB after all.
And you are right. I called and asked Rogers about getting back the plan after canceling it and they said “noway” … grrr..
As of now, the 15 $ isnt much coz I am on an internship, but when I go back to school.. 15$ is 2 days food 🙁
I hope that by then they come up with better (cheaper) data plans. I will have wireless network all over campus and wouldnt be needing 3G anyways. 😀

Rogers is so stupid , if they made that data/value pack 20 bucks, I would bet 99% of the people would get it. They really need to refresh their marketing. Like their making enought money from all of us canadians. And with the ever-expanding data phones, give us a break.

Does anybody know if the $30 data value pack qualifies for the 15% better bundles discount? My $30/6GB option does, but I hear this is not the norm and only the base voice plans normally qualify for the BB discounts.

I just called today to get the $30 value pack. Combine that with the $10 plan and I’m paying approx $53.00 a month. I say it’s a good deal for me as I don’t expect myself to exceed 500mb a month as wifi is always around me at work and at home

hey i just called for the $30 data value pack, they gave it to me for $20 because its a new promotion and they give you $10 dollars off for the 3 years! (should be good for everyone)

So instead of paying $30 for 6gb data plan and another $10 for unlimited txt, i now pay $10 for unlimited txt (10,000), i get 500mb instead of 6gb (more then enough) AND i get visual voicemail. TOTALLY worth it!

Rogers gave me the 500mb Data value pack for only 20bucks!
Now i have the 10dollar plan too! so i pay only 30 a month + access fee + Tax

250 weekday mins, 6PM early evenings, Network calling, 10,000 Text Messages, Caller ID, Visual Voicemail, Who Called, 500MB of data. All for only 30 bucks. Best Value ever.!

I called rogers to switch over to this plan and they also gave me 10dollars off for the $30 Data Value Pack because they stated it was a new promotion. That’s a hell of a deal for me now basically i pay $17.50 for my voice plan and $20 dollars for 10,000 text messages, caller id, visual voicemail, who called and 500mb of data
17.50 + 20.00 + 6.95 + .50 = 44.95 plus taxes so i basically saved over 35 dollars now considering my bill use to be around 80

Hey there Iphone users!
I just got off the phone with Rogers and yes I just switched my 6GB/Month to this awesome deal of $30 Data Value pack with $10 rebate back ( One time only promotion folks…not for 3 years that’s what the Sales Rep said unless she’s pulling my leg…). Thanks so much IphoneFan for this news and this webpage was on all the time when I spoked to Rogers…it sounded like the Sales Rep was also on the same page..LOL.
Also Rogers warned me like a couple of times to not go over the 500MB limit or else pay the hefty $$$. I only averaging 60MB per month anyways…so good luck to all who had switched over.

@Jasper,
LOL, ask for another Sales Rep.
That $10 credit thing is just one time only, I just played along and ask about it and they just give it to me….they all do know about it…so unless your Sales Rep is new or being an A$$. You have already switched over to this Value pack, correct?

Jasper

Yeah I have,
I called a day later to ask for it and the rep said he couldn’t. So then I asked about student discount and he said no too.
Probably a crappy rep.
Do you think its too late to get the credit?

Duc

@Jasper,
I don’t think it’s too late. They just released this promotion..and if they offer $10 rebate to some and not to others…it’s not a good sales practice I say. So I would call Rogers again and complain about it. It’s strange not to see a text message from Rogers to many Iphone users regarding this promotion. If it hadn’t been for this great site nobody would know about it….so try your luck again.

lol, i was the one that told them about this deal, which I saw off another website. Over at their threads, people are saying that the Reps that give you the $10 Credit are donig soemthing wrong because it’s not included. I’ll try agian tonight though.

Yesterday, I got the $30 plan including the $10 off and $17.50 voice plan, and it took ever an hour as the rep had to repeatedly talk to other reps to make sure I can get this. BUT when I got my shipping confirmation via email, it only stated my voice plan. I called Rogers again, and apparently my dataplan was never added and no trace of it ever being included. The new rep gave me the $30 value pack but said there was no such thing as a $10 credit and that the old rep may have been ‘misinformed’ and confused. Its was bittersweet experience.

This is the PERFECT example of why so many people are irate with Rogers and their customer service. I had this experience when I first signed up for Rogers last year. I thought I was going to get a phone for free, but when I called to check they charged me a discounted price and conveniently signed me up for 3 years. Then, they tried to charge me the early cancellation for changing “my” sign up…WTF!

You could go online to Rogers site and signup there to see you billing statement etc and you could access your wireless account to see what Rogers had included in this
Value pack. I have no idea where that $10 credit thing came from, however I managed my way thru a sweet talk and got it. I am hoping that there’s no charge for switching data plans….

I just added the $30 data value pack and got the $10 rebate. I only did this because I really wanted visual voicemail as I have had the 1st gen iPhone.

Everything seems to be working great and my bill is essentially the same ~$50 (i always went over with my text messaging in my previous plan).

Thanks for the info iPhone Fan

@Ron,
You are one impatient guy. Wait and you WILL get answers. The plan DOES exist, you might’ve been getting a mis-informed representative.
Just kindly tell them, “I read somewhere that there was a new $30 iPhone Value Package that includes (state stuff).”
If they say no, try again. This DOES exist, a bunch of people have this.

ok, after 5 calls to Rogers, I finally got someone who knew about the $10 discount off the $30 iPhone value Data pack. I switched to this, with discount $20/month for 3 yrs, and added a voice plan for $27, which includes early 6 pm evening and weekend calling, and 250 daytime minutes. So before tax I save $13/month from the $60 iPhone pack I was on and I also save $7 cause I don’t need to buy call display for a total savings of $20/month. SWEET!

Well I heard about this 30 dollar value pack so I called about an hour and a half ago and added it to my plan, then I found this thread.

I just got off the phone with the customer relations department and they adjusted it for me so now I get the plan for 20 dollars a month.

At first the guy acted as though he didn’t know what I was talking about, but I kept persisting that my friend with an iPhone just got this exact same plan for 20 dollars and is on the 10 dollar voice plan as well and that I am upset with the fact that I’m being told I have to pay more.

After “checking some things” a few times, he found the “discount package” as he referred to it, and said something about a promotion where you get 33.33% off the 30 dollar value pack, which is where you save 9.99 and end up paying 20.01

Now I too am on the 10 dollar calling plan, with a 20 dollar data plan so i’m also only paying 30 a month + access fee + Tax for
250 weekday mins, unlimited weekends, unlimited early evenings starting at 6PM, Network calling, 10,000 Text Messages, Caller ID, Visual Voicemail, Who Called, 500MB of data.

My advice to anyone else who wants to get results from rogers is ignore their automated system and start saying things like “customer relations” whenever it asks what you are calling about, say that a couple of times, then you’ll be asked to press 1 if you’re calling about an iphone, do that, and you will reach a representive of a higher tier with more authority and discount options at their disposal as you’re effectively speaking to the cancellation department who’s main objective is to retain you as a customer. I don’t know if Rogers offers the 10 dollar voice plan anymore or not, it was quite some time ago that they were offering it to new customers only and I was able to get it by bluffing that I was gonna switch providers.

Hey Jesse, it’s great that you were able to get the plan. We have the same plans, for 30$ that’s the best deal I’ll ever get with an iPhone on rogers. Now if only I could get the system access fee removed, like what they have at fido. Oh well, it’s still better than paying $60 a month! Btw the $10 plan is still availiabe from where I live ( Winnipeg)

i just talked to 4 reps, 2 from customer service, 1 from account changes and 1 from sales. they all denied me the 10$ off discount. i pleaded my case that i have friends who have it for the iphone and i know it exists, but they wouldnt budge. since this was tat midnight, im going to call tmrw morning and take “Jessie’s” advice and go straight to retentions.

what a joke.
