Google Search for Mobile Gets Movie Listings And More

Google has updated their movie results for Google Search for Mobile. The update makes the process of finding a movie and times much easier by simplying going to Google.com and searching “movies”. Alternatively, users may search directly by theatre name.

After searching for “movies”, users tap on the “Use Location” link and then tap on the “more movies” link. From here users can browse for their favorite theatres which are shown based on user proximity. If you have an iPhone, a data plan or WiFi is required. If you have an iPod Touch, WiFi must be on.

Each theatre also has its movie times listed, a link for available Google maps and to get additional information, users simply tap on the movie.

Google has also integrated the ability to watch the movie teaser trailer right from the web page with available YouTube links.

Our new movie listings page now includes buttons to play trailers right on your phone, ratings and categories, movie posters, upcoming showtimes, and a concise list of the nearest theaters and their distances from you. We keep information on this page succinct so you can quickly browse through shows and showtimes to help you decide which movie to see. If you want more details about a specific movie, just touch the poster or movie title and you’ll see our new movie details page that has a synopsis of the movie, a more detailed list of showtimes, the cast and crew, and pictures.

The new movies search with Google is much faster than navigating to your local movie theatre webpage, but the Google way does take about the same amount of time as using a movie search based app.

I think a dedicated app like “Now Playing” is much faster, more convenient and displays much more info at a glance. it's a free app, very useful

I use the free Flixster app, which works very well in Canada. It does everything that the new Google movie listings do, but with much better presentation and more links to reviews and previews. I haven't tried all the others, but there are many good free apps in this space.
