iChatAgent Process Revealed In iPhone OS 4

During Apple’s iPhone OS 4 event this morning, there was no information on new iPhone hardware. So that means it’s time for iPhone SDK developers to dig for some!

Over the last few months, iChat (video calling) support rumors have been circulating as a new feature to debut on a new iPhone this Summer 2010.

Located inside of the iPhone OS 4 firmware, a process labeled as “iChatAgent” has been revealed. This process is completely new to the iPhone firmware and indicates a future video calling feature for iPhones.

The iChat feature would likely be introduced alongside a front-facing iPhone camera, however power consumption and battery drain become serious concerns. Although, as Apple claimed to introduce multitasking with no significant battery drain, the company may be able to adapt that battery saving feature to video calling as well.
