Leaked Prototype iPod Touch Units with Cameras On eBay

Are more secrets leaving Apple’s campus? It turns out that earlier this morning an auction appeared on eBay selling two prototype iPod Touch units with cameras. According to 9to5Mac:

Well looky what we have here. Someone has put up two semi-working iPod touches WITH cameras and a development version of the iPod OS on Ebay. They are marked with ‘DVT-1’ and ‘DVT-2’, ‘Apple Development Team’ and one is running some sort of ‘switchboard’ OS window.

Here’s a clip of the eBay description:

“Well..These were R & D units..One wont turn off and has some wierd OS…or lack of firmware So it will be dead when you get it,,,but will power up when you plug it in…The other won’t turn on has a brown spot on the screen. Both have cameras”

It would be easy to think that these would be fake right? Well, the auction has now been PULLED off eBay. So that right there is an indication that these might have been actual test units. The seller should have just contacted Gizmodo again!

What do you think? Real or fake? Apple PR machine working its magic again?

What would the FCC logo do on a R&D prototype?
Nonsense

not true. any electronic device has to meet government standards/regulations prototype or not. Especially when it connects to the internet. the WAN's (Wide Area Networks) that backbone the internet are government funded, and therefore they have the right to decide compliance standards as to what “connects” to it….that's precicely why the iPad was banned in Israel, because the WiFi didn't comply with their standards/regulations (which btw was a really stupid move considering the potential market(s) ).

even if me and u were to design a prototype of something it would legally have to comply, the fact is we're so small they most likely would never know. that can't be said for Apple, which is why they would have to be.

lol it would be funny though if this was the “new age of marketing and this is Apple's response to multi-million dollar marketing campaigns…..they've done that genius iPhone 4G/HD ploy, and then if they did this that would be brilliant 😛

These look like battered old prototypes, probably the source of all those rumours of the iPod with camera. Which are most likely true, but got scrapped at the last minute. Interesting find.
