iPhone OS 4.0 Beta Has Built In Flashlight?
One of the latest finds in the iPhone 4.0 firmware beta is a flashlight feature by using the sleep/wake button. Since the 4.0 OS is still in beta, it is difficult to know whether this flashlight find is a feature or a bug.
However, if this flashlight capability ends up in the final 4.0 firmware, we wouldn’t be surprised as it is just like Apple to put something so small, yet so useful into the iPhone.
To activate the flashlight in firmware 4.0, users just click the sleep/wake button three times in a row. It does not seem to matter whether the iPhone is awake or asleep, as clicking the button three times produces an all white and bright iPhone display.

What i really want for 4.0 is flash! and background mode, and the ability to use wifi over 3g without jailbreak
wifi over 3G?…you mean wireless tethering?
It's little things like this that make me love Apple. I use my iPhone for a flashlight all the time, and 99% of the time it's by pressing the sleep/wake button while it's in sleep-mode to bring up the screen-lock screen which is just bright enough to help me navigate in the dark. I hope that it isn't just a bug and that it's an actual feature of 4.0, and that other think it's as cool as I do.
Yeapp without having to jailbreak it
Speaking of 4.0 and the beta software, I expected Apple to release the “gold certified” version today since WWDC is next week. If the new iPhone is said to be announced next Monday or Tuesday, I would think they would have the new software finalized too, so developers could finalized their apps in time for the 4.0 release? I know that's what Apple did last year. I hope that's not a bad omen that the new iPhone HD won't be released until later in June? Guess we'll see!
The curtain has been pulled back on iPhone OS 4.0, and the list of new features is massive: There's multitasking, a refreshed interface, and literally hundreds of other changes, all coming this summer. Here's the rundown.iPhone OS 4.0: Top 9 New Features to Expect
Yup, I also use my iPhone as a quick “light” at night too. This would be a very handy feature.
You mean being able to tether like using MyWi (versus tethering to a laptop)?
I've got an iPhone 3G running OS 4, beta 4, and it doesn't do this. Might only work on 3GS, or is just a bug. Would be handy, though.
