This morning at WWDC, Apple announced the release of the GM version of iOS 4.0 (8A293), otherwise known as the Gold Master version of the firmware. Apple also released a new iTunes 9.2 beta to developers.
The iPhone firmware 4.0 beta, now known as iOS 4.0, began in April 2010 and has seen four beta versions and today’s GM seed over its cycle.
The iOS 4.0 update is to deliver a slew of new enhancements, some of which are detailed below:
Multitasking
Custom homescreen backgrounds
Camera 5x Digital Zoom
Application Folders
Places and Faces in the Photo App
Bluetooth Keyboard Support
Screen Orientation Lock
The final shipping version of iOS 4.0 will be available on June 21, 2010 for the following devices:
iPhone 3GS: June 21, 2010; All features available
iPhone 3G: June 21, 2010; Some features unavailable, like Multitasking
iPod Touch Third Generation: June 21, 2010; All features available
iPod Touch Second Generation: June 21, 2010; Some features unavailable, like Multitasking
Also remember, if you have your iPhone/iPod Touch jailbroken or unlocked, you should not update to 4.0 when it is released, as you will lose both your jailbreak and unlock.
