Tether your iPhone Data Plan on iOS 4 with MyWi 4.0

One amazing feature of using your iPhone in Canada is that we get to tether our data plans to our laptops. But if you want to tether to another device such as your iPad, iPhone, Nintendo DS, etc, you’re out luck–unless you are using MyWi 3.0.

MyWi has been updated for iOS 4 and it’s now available for download within the Rock app (jailbreak required: try PwnageTool 4.01 (Mac) or redsn0w (PC); old bootroms only). MyWi 4.0 now comes with a 10 day free trial and after that it’s $19.99. An upgrade price for previous 3.x users is $9.99. Paying for an upgrade from 3.0 to 4.0? It better be worth it. Either way, I’m going to get this because MyWi works exactly as advertised.

To be able to tether my 6GB data plan to my iPad is priceless! Why pay extra for a MyFi device when your iPhone can do it all? Just make sure you something like the Richard Solo battery pack to keep your iPhone battery lasting all day.

Here are some updated features:

⁃ Faster performance
⁃ Lower battery consumption
⁃ Choose the In Use Indicator that you want:
⁃ Status bar icon (no battery use)
⁃ Blue pulsing bar (10% – 15% more battery)
⁃ Adjust the transmit power (Between 30% and 100%)
⁃ See who is connected to your hotspot (IP addresses)
⁃ Choose from a list of subnets to dish out over DHCP
⁃ Battery consumption meter
⁃ USB Bridge mode. (Connect your laptop over USB to the phones 3G or WiFi connection!)

Original Features:
⁃ Create a WiFi Hotspot to connect multiple laptops or mobile devices to share your iPhone’s internet connection
⁃ 40 bit and 104 bit WEP Security to prevent others from accessing your WiFi HotSpot
⁃ Ability to enable USB Tethering on your iPhone
⁃ Broadcasts the Network Name (SSID) – no need to fuss with creating an adhocnetwork on your laptop
⁃ Shows up and down bandwidth usage

How to get MyWi 4.0? Search for it via Cydia and install it. You will need to purchase it via Rock though.

Last time around, I bought MyWi 3.0 via Cydia, not Rock. With 4.0 installed via Rock, it doesn’t recognize my old purchase. Anyone know how to figure this one out?

Let me know how MyWi 4.0 works for you!

I hope the upgrade can be done via Cydia soon – before iPhone 4 comes out in Canada anyway 🙂

Was planning on getting this for my 3G a little while back, but I guess I'll just hold off until I get my 4. $20 would be well worth this. 😀

Why the premium over version 3? It's a good app, but 20$… Come on! They only raised the price because it is selling like hot cakes! It's also eating up my battery like hot cake! My battery will run down within an hour or two, while plugged in, when two or more device s are using the wi-fi simultaneously!!! They say version 4 is better on battery life, they better deliver if I have to dish out another 10 bucks!

this is the best app ever.

Great news! Now I just need to wait for that jailbreak for new bootroms.
I can't blame them for jacking the price. The product is in such high demand due to ipads, but its a double edge sword at the same time, because many maybe even myself will look for a repo that will dish out a free version because of the high price increase.

You guys should really remove the ads from your site that say “Unlocked 64GB iphone 4s, 149” (obviously a scam).

This app does work as advertised. I've used it on my 3g 3.1.2 jailbreak. Ive just updated to iOS4.0 in Canada and plan to continue using mywi

Although this site has some good info, they'll basically sell ads to whomever and often promote products, not because they're good, but because they're from a sponsor. Do what many of us do and use Adblock on Firefox. So much nicer an experience when all the ads are blocked. I don't mind site with one or two ads, but when you get to having 10-20 per page it's a bit much! :p

It's a great ap, but ya, ther $20 price tag and $10 upgrade are a bit steep for sure. Probably not the best business move, but ya, he'll make a killing on this. I have 4.0 on my 3G – as much as I can't wait to have MyWi back, I'm going to wait for two reasons:

-No way Rock is ever finding it's way back on my phone – I'll wait for the Cydia version.
-Many people are experiencing issues with the 3G where this app has wrecked their data connectivity, even after removing it (check out Modmyi).

Here's hoping for a bit cheaper that $10 upgrade, and a product which works well for all phones.

It is in Cydia. The only thing is it reverts your Carrier settings back to 7.0 hence, no more data and have to restore your phone.

It is in Cydia, but requires you to install Rock with it (at the moment). Also, those who bought outside Rock are currently unable to access the upgrade price. So, that's two reasons to wait for the non-Rock version.

can't wait until we get the native version (no rock) from xsellize 🙂

Agree, $20 is a bit much compared to how it used to be $10, so the dev must have realised everyone wants it. People cracking this app and people getting the cracked version is unavoidable.

Can you explain about the carrier update to 7.0. I am having issue with MyWi 4 not working on my 3G iPhone, iOS4. I works for 2 tries and then my wifi and 3G networks are disable. I have to reboot the iPhone to get connection back. Is there a fix?

Guys, I heard there is a thing called micro sim adapter. These guys sell it here: gomicrosim.com .What do you think, is it worth buying one? They say it allows me to use my micro sim card from Ipad in my old Iphone 3g, thus saving bucks on the data plan.
