Duracell myGrid iPhone Charging Kit

One of the disadvantages to charging your devices, such as an iPhone, is that you typically have to tether the device to a cord, limiting the use of the device and having to fumble with cables.

To improve this, in the last few years the idea of wireless charging has been introduced and while we are not entirely there yet, we are really close.

One of the more common methods to wirelessly charge your devices is to use an emerging accessory that is essentially a charging pad in which the user lays their devices on top of and the charging connectors recharge the devices.

One of the more popular versions of this is the myGrid from Duracell. myGrid is a simplistic charging solution that drops all of the cords normally required for charging. The myGrid charger can also charge up to four devices at one time!

This is how it works. First, place the myGrid on a flat surface. Second, plug in the only cable, which is the AC adapter to power the grid. Last, insert the DC plug into the myGrid. At this point, the myGrid is prepared for charging when it displays an indicator light.

At this point, attach the available Power Sleeve (or Power Clip) to your device and place the device with the sleeve/clip contact points face down on the surface of the myGrid, which can charge up to four devices at the same time. When your devices have completed charging and are removed from the myGrid, the myGrid simply goes into a sleep mode.

The nice bonus with the myGrid is that it does not exclusively charge iPhones. Users can charge their iPhones, iPod touch, Blackberry devices, Nokia devices, Motorola devices, and LG devices. Since the myGrid is compatible with all of these devices, users can choose from two packages:

1.) Duracell myGrid Cell Phone Charger Kit includes the myGrid charging pad, AC adapter,  PowerClip + tips

2.) Duracell myGrid iPhone Charger Kit includes the myGrid charging pad, AC adapter,  and iPhone Power Sleeve

Users can also purchase Power Sleeves and PowerClips + tips separately for $39.99USD. Also note, that Power Sleeves are available for the iPod touch and iPhone and every other device will use a Power Clip.

For those interested, the tech specs of the myGrid are listed below:

  • Dimensions: 6.75” W x 8.5” L x 0.75” H
  • Power input: 100 – 240 VAC, 0.4 Amps, 50 – 60 Hz
  • Power output: 15VDC; 1A
  • Weight: 4.0 oz.
  • Certifications: FCC, ETL

The myGrid is a great charging solution if you do not have a lot of space and would rather not fumble with multiple cables across various devices. The myGrid will charge up to four of your iPhone or iPod touch devices or a combination of the two types. The charger will also charge other devices, but we like to focus on iDevices ;-).

The Duracell myGrid is available at various online retailers (check the Duracell product page) for $84.99. The myGrid may also be available at your local electronics retailer.

yeah.. a double of the power mat. Those kinda chargers alway scare me a little.
The thought about laying my phone down on a pad that has electricity running through it goes against everything i ever learnt, and feels so wrong. i understand its the case on your iphone that takes the charge, but just feels like one slip up, and my phone could be lost forever lol.

I don't see how this is more convenient than plugging in. You need the stupid case and you still can't pick up or move your phone…. I would say it is MORE restrictive than the charging cable….. Fail!

Cool, free stuff. Of course, I don't have an iPad, nor have I ever used a case, but I dig the giveaway.

The sleeve for the iPhone doesn’t properly fit the iPhone 4. The camera flash is covered by the sleeve making it unusable and the power button on the top isn’t lined up correctly making it very difficult to access. Perhaps the sleeve was designed for previous versions of the iPhone but doesn’t fit well for the iPhone 4. A shame really, as the idea is great and I was keen to use it.
