How To: Save Your iOS 4.0 SHSH Blobs (For Jailbreaking)
For those that want to ensure a trouble-free jailbreak in the future, it is always a good idea to have your device SHSH blobs saved for the current firmware.
If you are running iOS 4.0, then now is a good time to save your SHSH blobs before the iOS 4.1 update. To do so, you can use an application called TinyUmbrella and you do not have to be jailbroken to use it.
Follow the steps below on your PC or Mac with your iDevice (iPad, iPhone, iPod touch) running on iOS 4.
Save Your iDevice SHSH Blobs
Windows
1.) Download the latest version of TinyUmbrella for your specific computer.
2.) If needed, extract the file to your desktop.
3.) Navigate to and open: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file.
4.) If there is a line which contains gs.apple.com, remove it. Then save the file and exit.
5.) Start the TinyUmbrella application you downloaded in Step 1.
6.) Plug your iDevice into your computer via the USB cable. When it loads, select “Save my SHSH”. Your SHSH will now be saved locally on your PC and uploaded to Saurik’s server.
Mac
1.) Download the latest version of TinyUmbrella for your specific computer.
2.) If needed, extract the file to your desktop.
3.) Launch Terminal from your Applications > Utilities folder.
4.) Type the following and hit Enter:
sudo /Applications/TextEdit.app/Contents/MacOS/TextEdit /etc/hosts
5.) TextEdit will open. If there is a line which contains gs.apple.com, remove it. Then save the file and exit.
6.) Start the TinyUmbrella application you downloaded in Step 1.
7.) Plug your iDevice into your computer via the USB cable. When it loads, select “Save my SHSH”. Your SHSH will now be saved locally on your Mac and uploaded to Saurik’s server.
