Best Buy Lowers Prices For Telus iPhone 3GS On Contract

With 8 days left until iPhone 4, retailers are looking to get rid of existing iPhone 3GS inventory. In this case, Best Buy has marked down the iPhone 3GS 16GB Black/White from Telus.

If you are looking for a deal and do not care much for the iPhone 4, then check out the iPhone 3GS from Best Buy:

  • iPhone 3GS 16GB Black: $49.99 (was $99.99; $50 price drop)
  • iPhone 3GS 16GB White: $24.99 (was $99.99; $75 price drop)

Even though it is the iPhone 3GS, iOS4 will run great on the device, so if you’re looking for a deal, this may be it.

Keep in mind however that these prices are with a new 3-year agreement from Telus activated in-store at a Best Buy or Telus location. New activations with Telus also receive the six months unlimited local calling, 6PM early evenings add-on, and activation fee waiver promotions.

It's crazy that we don't have more info on the iPhone 4 launch yet! I called Telus this morning and they said that e-mail would be going out to those who registered in the next 24 hours. Hopefully that holds true!

Suprising that the white ones are cheaper but yeah its likely just that they have more…
Who cares about color when you can slap any skin you want on the phone anyway… =)

Hurrrrrrry… get your iPhone 3GS… Less people in line in front of me when I want to pickup my iPhone4!!!

telus has to lower prices so they can get people stuck on their crappy network.

just a word of advice for people who were thinking of going with telus, while their prices may be good, your in for a hell of a ride if you have an issues with your phone(unless you go directly to apple) your SOL(they wanted me to demonstrate my blackberry dropping calls or they wouldn't repair or even think of repairing, even tho it was still under warrenty) or if you lose your phone(you need to purchase a replacement at full cost, and don't think about getting a unlocked phone, because unless it's a 3g phone, it won't work on their network)

May I ask what proof you have that unlocked phones will not work on their network?

Agreed, this is ridiculous! There are so many questions (pricing, free bumpers in canada?, white version availability, upgrade eligibility, etc.)

I can tell you, I have a Motorola Milestone from telus and I unlocked it and it works just fine. I ahve also personally unlocked my old iphone and it works on the telus network too, so I would also be interested in knowing where you got that bit of information.

if you read closer, you would note that i said unlocked phones would not work on their network, UNLESS IT'S A 3G PHONE.

my gf's telus blackberry stoped working after about 3 months, telus refused to fix it, i got her a unlocked blackberry bold 9000, which works fine, but she lost that one and when i unlocked a 8900, it would not work on their network, even tho a rep on the phone and two in different stores told me it would.

personally after being with telus for 5-6 years, i was more than willing to pay their overpriced cancelation fees

All the Calgary Best Buy stores are sold out

As for networks any ratings i found for any of the big three providers are around a four out of ten so they are all equally not great! 🙂

pricing is more than likley gonna be the same as the states
free bumpers are from apple, not from the retailer. so don't expect a free bumper when you pick up your iphone is a rogers/telus/bell store
apple said in press conference that white will be available on the 30th

Oh I see you are referring to any 3G phone. I guess I'm just stupid because it's an iPhone discussion and 3G just happened to be the name of one of their iPhones. Thanks for putting me in my place.

sorry if that came across rude, talking about telus just makes my blood boil…

just a heads up for those who decide to go with telus, their options when they lose their phones are quite limited.

Rogers Handset protection guarantee is amazing, smash your phone a month after you get it, you can get it fixed or a cheap replacement

The phones on the Telus site are refurb (except the 3GS 8GB), but if the guy i spoke to at Best Buy is to be believed, the ones on sale were new.

It's a week from tomorrow that it's going to be released.. So it would make sense. You would hope so, at least.

Telus and Bell made (and paid for) a new 3G network last fall. They both run on it now, along with the old CDMA network. The iphone is only a GSM phone — hence it runs on their new 3G network. Yes EDGE phones won't run because they are not 3G, but as of today Rogers, Bell and Telus (and their cheaper options — Fido, Virgin, Kodo) all have access to 3G GSM networks. Bell and Telus (with Kodo and Virgin) still run CDMA phones as they have many in the hands of subscribers (myself included). I would guess it is only a matter of time until they shut it down as they did their analogue networks. However, that day will probably not come for another ten years.

I am suprised they have any left. Maybe because there aren't too many Telus users? Here is my nightmare with Bakus/Bell

July 5th – ordered a 16 g 3Gs from Bakus/Bell which was in stock at the time
July 6th – had to call them back with my CC info as they needed the CV number on the back.
Was then told they were back ordered with no date in sight for my phone
July 10th – bought a bunch of cases, chargers on Ebay which are now useless
July 12th – officially emailed that they were back ordered and would be told when my phone was going to be shipped
July 22nd – told there are no iPhone 3Gs of any kind in the country for Bell and that my order in all likehood will never be filled but could go to another phone if I wanted.
-Apple tells me they are shipping them within 24hrs if i wanted one, full retail
-Bell.ca has the 8 g in stock and are shipping, refurb and authentic from the looks of their website
– Bell World Store tells me there aren't any in stock in 58 stores or something like that but they are expecting a shipment at the end of the month

I just want a 3Gs phone to see if I like it and then maybe flip to a 4 after a year if I think it's worth it. Unreal.

Never order a phone over the phone regardless of carrier. Go to a store and buy one.

Engadget is reporting that the white one is now scheduled to ship “Later this Year”. I guess you have to have a case on it anyway, so why not black…

Firstly Telus stopped waiving activation fees back on July 1st so that promotion no longer applies (6pm/6months still do).

Secondly there is a 99% chance we wont see white iPhones at launch. Expect black only.

For people complaining about unlocked phones, of couse not every phone works with Telus… they don’t have a GSM network. In fact they have a handy tool right on their website to find out if it works or not. Not Telus’s fault if you don’t do your research.
