Reports today indicate that a new software update for Apple’s iPhone and iPod touch is on its way as numerous overseas users report glitches in the Alarm Clock app.
The report comes from Australia and notes that the Alarm Clock application found on the iPhone and iPod touch began waking up users an hour early in the southern region of Australia and other areas.
Through trial and error, users have found that a bug in the Clock app caused the software not to fall back an hour when daylight savings time switched over.
Users have found success by setting their alarm one hour forward in order to have the clock app activate at the right time. Of course, users should not have to do that but it is clear that the issue lies with DST and iOS.
The good news is that a representative for Apple Australia has reported that the company is aware of the issue and that a fix has already been developed. The fix is expected in an upcoming software update, presumably 4.1.1, for iPhone and iPod touch.
The Apple representative did not indicate a time line for release, but the iOS update will likely appear within the next few weeks before DST changes over for other places in world. However, Apple could also wait and include the fix in November’s iOS 4.2 update.
While the software update will patch the Clock bug, jailbroken iPhone and iPod touch devices should be aware that the 4.1.1 or 4.2 release may close the recent limera1n jailbreaking hole. If your iPhone or iPod touch is jailbroken, it’s best to avoid these updates until further notice.

I’m confused, I thought limera1n was like SHATter ain that they are both upgrade-proof as they were exploits found on the hardware…
Limera1n was considered un-patchable, but the Dev Team working on the SHatter exploit have found a software fix to the Jailbreak. If the Dev Team found it, then Apple has too. you can check out it here —>http://blog.iphone-dev.org/post/1280823486/limera1n-surprise
That post doesn’t say anything about software closing the actual exploit. Only that it is possible it will no longer be an untethered solution if Apple fixes that part of it.
That is correct but the part that makes it an untethered JB may be patched.
for what i understand apple cant block the bootrom exploit but the userland part can be closed with software

The signing window they are talking about is the exploit GeoHot used to create the Jailbreak.
After that window is closed Apple will be able to patch the hole Limera1n created.
No, that means you will no longer be able to install 4.1 as the apple authentication servers will stop allowing it. It has nothing to do with stopping the JB. By backing up your shsh, you can point your pc to a fake auth server that WILL sign the install of 4.1

If it really is a boot exploit you will always be able to use it regardless of firmware version. Only a hardware revision can stop it. You may have to connect to your PC to boot if the fix the hack used to allow it to be untethered now.
What exactly is the difference with untethered and tethered?
Untethered means that once the JB is done, you can reboot your phone with no issues. With a tethered JB, you have to have your iphone connected (tethered) to a PC/mac every time you want to boot it up as the JB software (in this case Limera1n) would need to essentially redo the JB on every boot.
The information regarding the jailbreak in that post in NOT VALID. The only thing that it will patch is the “unthetered” part of limera1n. The bootrom exploit itself will still be usable after the patch is released.

Maybe I’m too old to understand all this but I saved a SHSH hash file using Tiny Umbrella after my iPhone F’d up and I had to do a restore BUT I tried using Tiny Umbrella but it wouldn’t re-install or “downgrade” my firmware back to 3.1.3. I also had my files on Cydia but A:) they no longer show up on the main page of Cydia and B:) I don’t see (“make my life easier”) anywhere on Cydia’s main page either. I also didn’t see the point of Saurik saving them as you were never able to retrieve them and have them re-installed on your device. At least I never knew how to figure it out.
Only a hardware revision can stop it.
