Jailbroken iPhone? Try A 3D Homescreen

There are many jailbreak-only tweaks available on Cydia, but this 3D Homescreen tweak definitely ranks high in the visual category.

Apocalypse, an app developer, is working on a new jailbroken tweak called 3DBoard, which as seen below, adds a subtle 3D effect to the icons on your iPhone homescreen when the device is tilted (no 3D glasses required).

There is no release date aside from the tweak coming soon to Cydia for $4.00.

I can’t see it. Maybe it was the terribly shot video…
Anyhoo, while this may be cool, and though $4 isn’t much, most things like this will drain battery ever so slightly, and so I, like many others who jailbreak for SBSettings and only a few more apps, will pass on it.
Excuse the overindulgence of commas.

When I read 3D, I assumed that the icons would have some depth. I guess they do, in some sense, but really, they’re simply floating above the background. Still a cool effect, but I think it would make me dizzy.

Definitely a good door opener for apps to come!

its cool, don’t know if it does drain the battery, but i already run themes on mine, and the only thing i find that drains battery is the native ibooks, i think its the white background.

Looks like an app for the iPhone 4 only…..and……alas……I am going to have to wait for my hardware upgrade allowance which should be just in time for the iPhone 6!

Ok, people need a bit of perspective here. I hear people who complain about $2, $3, $4, $5 apps being too expense. Wow, you guys need to go take a look at the historical take on the software world. Before the iPhone App store, software for any devices used to cost $10, $20, $30 and more. If someone wrote some small thing that they charged $5 or $10 we’d go “hey, that’s a steal!”.

Now, just because someone set a $0.99 precedent, a software author trying to make a living is accused of raking users over the coals if they charge more than 2 bucks for their software. And don’t try to say that “that’s ok, they’re making millions!” trick. The average joe makes very, very little off of their apps. Certainly not enough to make a living off of. Yes, there are some super success stories, but they are the exception , not the rule.

Maybe I’m just getting old. But really folks, suck it up, $4 isn’t too much to pay for someone’s hard work…
