Whistler Blackcomb To Launch Mobile Lift Ticket

For users of the Whistler Blackcomb Live app (free in the App Store), ESPN reports that the app is going to be updated in the near future to enable users to show their iPhone as their lift ticket.

Right now the app allows users to view the weather, hill conditions, lift status, maps, and the “Whistler cam”. However users may also track their total vertical distance skied and further share it via Twitter and Facebook.

Resort Technology Partners (RTP) has partnered with Whistler Blackcomb and TELUS, a Canadian telecommunications company, to create a smartphone app functionality that will allow riders to use their mobile phones as lift tickets.

This new mobile lift ticket feature will make this app even better, as skiers and boarders will be able to eliminate the paper ticket and just use their device! The upcoming feature is being tested internally by Whistler Blackcomb and will be introduced soon.

Thanks to Acura1.6 for the heads-up!

I find this idea kind of silly. Would anyone really prefer to have to take out their iphone everytime they want to get onto a ski-lift, while wearing gloves (making grip difficult), and risk dropping it in the snow..just so you don’t have to take a few seconds to attach a sticker to your zipper..

I still prefer the plastic card. Went there last winter and of course I kept my season pass as a souvenir.

You only have to take it out once. When you board one of the gondolas. Right now my EDGE card sits around my neck ,i take it out once.. as for my iPhone I’m always taking it out on the hill to snap and tweet photos 😉
