Download RedSn0w 0.9.9b6 For iOS 5 Jailbreak On Windows

The iPhone Dev-Team has just updated their iOS 5 jailbreak tool to support Windows. The latest version is RedSn0w 0.9.9b6 which brings quick iOS 5 jailbreaking to Windows and also fixes “Location Services” issue for iPhone 3GS devices running on the 06.15 baseband. Like the previous release, jailbreakers don’t need to supply the IPSW file manually since Redsn0w now includes the public URLs for the iOS 5 .IPSW files. Once again, the jailbreak is currently only tethered for all devices except iPhone 3GS with old bootrom. iPad 2 and iPhone 4S are not supported.

Via Dev-Team blog:

We’ve released version 0.9.9b6 of redsn0w, with both a functional fix and cosmetic fix for iOS5 jailbreakers.  For iPhone3GS owners with the 06.15 baseband, this redsn0w eliminates the network crash you saw when using Location Services in iOS5 (in fact, you don’t even need to disable Location Services anymore during the initial setup).   The cosmetic fix is to the visual countdown you see when going into DFU mode.

It’s okay to re-run this redsn0w over an existing device jailbroken at iOS5.  Just choose “Jailbreak” again and de-select Cydia (in other words, all the checkboxes will be unchecked).  If you are lucky enough to have an old-bootrom iPhone3GS, please pre-select the IPSW first (redsn0w can’t yet auto-detect the FW version of your old-bootrom 3GS if it’s already been jailbroken).

I don’t know why they even bother with this “tethered” crap.  Release an untethered version, or don’t release one at all.  Geez!

“tethered” provides a jailbreak faster.  Untethered jailbreaks are far more dependent on exploits that don’t always exist right away.

Does this mean that if I have to reboot my phone I’ll have to jailbreak it again?

Pretty much.

The reasons to even jailbreak now are diminishing with each release. I used to jailbreak but now I don’t really see a point. Even americans can get unlocked iPhones now and here in Canada, some carriers unlock iPhones while you are still under contract.

My iPhone 3GS (which I sold after upgrading to a 4S) gained custom alert tones with iOS 5. Save for themes that change icons, lock screens or other graphical elements, jail breaking provides very little customization over the stock iOS 5. I see no point of jail breaking my iPhone 4S.

Here are some good reasons to jailbreak:
-my3g – FaceTime over 3G, works perfectly
-mywi – quicker wifi sharing, automatic internet sharing between iPad and iPhone so it’s like you’ve got the 3G iPad even if you’ve got the wifi only model
-sb settings – quickly turn wifi on and off, quickly enter airplane mode, turn push notifications on and off and more – much faster than going through settings
-iblacklist – filter phone calls from unwanted people, or block all calls and messages so those things don’t interrupt your phone while it’s broadcasting video over 3G with stream
-folderenhancer and muti icon mover allow you to not have a ton of pages of badly organized apps. You can have bigger folders and folders within folders so you no longer have to have folders like ‘games 1’ ‘games 2’ etc.

Personally I can’t wait for the jailbreak to come out for the 4S. I think it’s a shame that you have to jailbreak to get those useful features.

I’m pretty sure free paid apps is the reason why most will Jailbreak.

I am taking the advantage of the following tweaks for my JBed iPhone 4:
> Activator, which gives me more options to operate my phone
> AndroidLock XT, which gives me another option to protect my phone other than password, and also I can hide it so no one is able to access my phone unless he/she knows how to access the locked screen
> Five icon Dock, needless to say why
> Infiniboard, which allows me to place apps on the same page instead of creating too many pages
> SBSettings, again, needless to say why.

As soon as Apple implements these options to the iOS, I will stop JB my iDevice.

Will this release fix the 06.15 GPS issue if I use it to jailbreak 4.3.3 or does that only apply to iOS5?

How will the new iMessage work with biteSMS? Will biteSMS still recognize the iPhone and give you the read, typing, etc. messages? Anybody know or have an idea?

With iMessage, do you still intend to use bite? I was a bite user till I updated to iOS5. In my case iMessage gives me all bite did and I no longer need bite.

Hey, WTF??

I have a 3GS with the old bootrom.  When I go Extras > Custom ISPW, the program pops-up a window saying ” This feature is not yet available for Windows”.  I want to build a NO-BB file, to preserve the unlockable 5.11.07 baseband.  I downloaded the Windows version from the Dev Teams blog page (assuming it’s the latest) and am using XP Pro with SP3.

Any thoughts on this?  Thanks…..

Sorry…forgot to say that the 3GS is already JB’d on 4.3.1.  As in the instructions above, I have pre-selected the v5.0 stock file.  Then, when clicking on Custom ISPW, the message appears.

Hmmmm….
