MuscleNerd Updates Current iOS 5.0.1 Downgrade / Jailbreak Status
Just a couple of days back, @pod2g of Chronic Dev Team gave a heads up warning to all those waiting for an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0 to stay put from iOS 5.0.1 update as Apple is likely to patch Charlie Miller‘s newly found security exploit in iOS which according to hackers, would lead to creation of a new and easier jailbreak solution. Today, another statement issued by Dev-Team leader @MusclNerd suggests the same, asking all jailbreakers and unlockers to avoid iOS 5.0.1 until a flow for downgrading back to iOS 5.0 is found.
Here’s what he said:
@MuscleNerd: “Jailbreakers and unlockers should avoid today’s 5.0.1 until a flow for downgrading to 5.0 is developed.”
Just to be clear, please noted that once you update your iPhone, iPod or iPad to iOS 5.0.1, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO DOWNGRADE back to iOS 5.0 since Apple has changed the signing process starting with iOS 5.0 meaning even if you do have your device’s SHSH signatures saved via Cydia or TinyUmbrella, you cannot use them to restore an older firmware on your device. So, if hackers come up with a new untethered iOS 5.0 jailbreak solution in the next few days, it might not work for you in case you’ve already updated to iOS 5.0.1.

Does anyone know if you have the update downloaded on your phone, will it automatically install itself if I plug it into a power source?
No you need to actually click install on your device
Yes
No u must manually hit update in settings> update.
After I install the IOS 5.0.1 the data doesnt works anymore.
any of you have the same problem?
any suggestion?
What if I have not updated to iOS 5.0 yet?
then there is already an untethered jailbreak available for you
I haven’t updated to 5.0 yet. If an untethered JB will be released for 5.0 but not 5.0.1+, will I be able to update to 5.0? Or is there a way to update to 5.0 now?
What is the best way for me to approach this?
Im in the exact same situation :. Im still on 4.2.1, and im jailbroken untethered on it, but id like to have an ios 5 based untether. As of now, you can no longer update to ios 5.0 if you arent already on it. You have to go to 5.0.1, and cant downgrade to 5.0, at least until they make a way to.
This is really bad news because if jailbreak fails and ios5 becomes unusable on your device, the only way to solve this issue is the update to ios5.0.1. For the moment I will keep my ios5 ipad with it’s clean instalation until a downgrade solution is developed.
Hey guys I had 5.0 in my iphone 4 for a week but then I went back to 4.3.5 because some bugs in 5.0, what if I would like to upgrade back to 5.0 once the untethered jailbreak comes up? how am I going to do it since 5.0.1 is the official version? By the way, before downgrading to 4.3.5 I just was able to save my 5.0 blobs using tinyumbrella but I have tried tinyumbrella method to upgrade back to 5.0 and got stuck on 1600 itunes error, can anybody help me please? Thanks!
That’s too bad you did that – especially since not too many have seen or noticed any bugs (unless maybe some of the Cydia apps are acting oddly). Not 100% sure, but don’t think you’ll be able to go back to 5.0.
on iphone 4s as soon as u connect to wifi it dwonlaods the 5.0.1 update lol….oh well :P…..regardless, i dont think there will be an unthetgered jailbreak in next few days for the 4s anyhow.
Could you downgrade from iOS 5.0.1 to iOS 4.3.3 then upgrade to iOS 5.0?
Does the whole change three host file work?
i tried that today and it didn’t work. i was able to downgrade to 4.3.3 but not able to upgrade only to 5.0.
edit: tried on iPhone 4 GSM
Is there a site for a jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 iPod touch? HELP?????
