NIKE+ FuelBand Announced to Nab Former Jawbone UP Customers

In the wake of a disappointing product launch, Jawbone has gone back to the drawing board with their UP wristband. This was their beautifully designed bracelet meant to be worn at all times to help track your sleep and your daily activity.

Sadly, many users reported issues with synchronization and monitoring prompting an apology from Jawbone CEO, Hosain Rahman, to consmers:

“We recognize that this product has not yet lived up to everyone’s expectations – including our own – so we’re taking action.”

Jawbone is currently offering a no questions asked refund on the product while they attempt to find some solution and prepare for a relaunch.

Nike is not about to miss the opportunity. Today, Vatornews is reporting that Nike has issued an announcement about a similar wristband product, which promises to accomplish many of the same tasks, and they’re calling it the NIKE+ FuelBand.

The band measures daily activity and movement and applies that to goals you’ve set in the past, much like the app they released last year, Nike+ GPS, which allows you to plan goals and track your running and workouts on your iPhone.

At the announcement, NIKE Inc. President & CEO Mark Parker said:

“Nike has always been about inspiring athletes, and the NIKE+ FuelBand will help motivate them in a simple, fun and intuitive way. The NIKE+ FuelBand is a way for Nike to further evolve the exciting possibilities of merging the physical and digital worlds”

The NIKE+ FuelBand is starting its launch today in the US and is available there for pre-order at $149.00.

Do you have any New Year resolutions that this might help with for you?
