Instagram Users Have Shared Over 1 Billion Photos, Android App Released

Popular iOS photo sharing app Instagram has released some eye-popping stats today:

  • 430K+ on its Android waiting list
  • 30 million+ registered users
  • 1 billion+ photos uploaded
  • 5 million+ photos per day
  • 575 likes per second
  • 81 comments per second

These numbers were released as part of its announcement that the Android version of the app is now available for download. In just under a month of its announcement an Android version was coming, an eager 430,000+ signed up to their waiting list.

In just 18 months, Instagram has exceeded 30 million users on iOS alone, an impressive stat. Just recently they allowed the app Hipstamatic to become the first third party app to post pictures to the Instagram network.

Am I the only one that dislikes the fact that Instagram significantly drops the quality of the photos you take? I much prefer Camera+ over any other camera app.
