RIM Reveals Their ‘Wake Up’ Anti-Apple Campaign to the World

When there was a mysterious ‘Wake Up’ protest outside the Sydney Apple Store in Australia, all fingers pointed at Samsung–but we were all wrong. Turns out it was Research In Motion as they admitted the flash mob protest was theirs.

Now, their ‘Wake Up’ campaign has been revealed. Just visit wakeupbebold.com to see the final product. You’ll encounter a voiceover and text that states why you need to choose the BlackBerry Bold.

You can’t make this stuff up. Nice work, RIM.

It sounds like whoever wrote that has been watching too much Mad Men. Unfortunately for them , it rambles without making much of a point to get excited about. That, and the fact that Blackberry themselves has needed to “wake up”.

So true. Throw in a few classic Draper “WHAT?” phrases and we’d be set.
We might as well just blame Peggy Olson.

I saw a bit of a new BB ad on TV last night with another one of their “successful users” spouting off about how the Internet comes “alive” on her BB Bold.  Really? Do you think anyone is going to buy that crap?  The Internet on a BB is the most painful experience ever.  Can’t wait for their iPhone clone to come out….

This is how it begins: “WAKE UP. It’s time to mean business.” I don’t think this is even proper grammar. It means nothing. When was the last time a great leader opened a meeting with stakeholders with the phrase “It’s time to mean business, guys”. No, this is crap. The phrase that carries meaning in english reads “this time we mean business” or “watch out, it looks like they mean business”. But without referencing anyone (i.e. a group of people), this phrase rings hollow and means nothing. If a marketing agency did this campaign for me, I’d make them get their contract fees from me in court. I’d issue a press release apologizing for the mistake, of using the WAKE UP marketing agency. I’d accuse the marketing agency of creating the campaign by using just 2 community college co-op students and a retarded ferret.

The most painful part of this, for me, is that in those focus groups – the marketing company had even *worse* ideas, that were thrown out. Yes, this was the best they could come up with. Ouch.

Wow!  If I were a stockholder, I’d be dumping RIM stock asap if this is the best they’ve got!

Ya right. Moving back light years from an iPhone or a Samsung Galaxy S III, with all their capabilities and innovations, to a Blackberry Bold means you’re in business. Somebody wake RIM up. They have been out of business for too long.

One more nail in RIM’s coffin…..and it would be laughable but in reality it’s truly a travesty, that what used to be an iconic Canadian company has come to this. I’ll feel sad for all those RIM employees who’ll be out of their jobs in the near future because the buffoons who were at the helm couldn’t or wouldn’t adapt to the smartphone landscape and kept plugging along with inferior tripe!
