Starbucks Canada Email Says “No Plans” to Offer Passbook Support [Update]
Just when we thought Starbucks Canada would be offering Passbook support to its iPhone app, a customer support response has us thinking otherwise. According to the following email received by iPhoneinCanada.ca reader Ricardo, it is stated there are “no plans” to release Passbook support for the app in Canada:
Hi Ricardo,
My name is O_____ and I’m from Starbucks Customer Service.
I just finished reading your email and appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns with us.
I am really sorry to hear about your disappointment of not having support for the passbook app in Canada. Unfortunately at this point there are no plans to release support for the passbook app, but I have shared your thoughts with our engineering department for consideration. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Thanks again for writing us. If you ever have any questions or concerns in the future, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
We would love to hear your feedback. Click here to take a short survey.

This contradicts what we were originally told by the @StarbucksCanada twitter account. We’ve reached out to Starbucks Canada ourselves and will let you know what the verdict is on Passbook here. In the meantime, don’t forget to check out our workaround tutorial on getting Passbook working with the Starbucks app in Canada.
Update: @StarbucksCanada has responded they are following up with customer care:
@grahamrose Thanks. We are planning to offer Passbook and are following up with customer care. We don't have timing yet. cc @iphoneincanada

Update 2: Our own inquiry to Starbucks via email just received the following response:
Let me start off by thanking you for your patience while waiting for a response.
I do want to apologize that at this time I cannot confirm if Canada will be getting Passbook or not and I do apologize about that.
Thanks again for writing us Gary. If you ever have any questions or concerns in the future, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Seriously who did NOT see this coming? It’s Starbucks Canada we’re talking about.
Nah its just canada, at wit of the corporate overloads in this pitiful place we call home.
Passbook or passport ???
Passbook. Too much turkey. O_o
Haha, but you still missed another one, “it is stated there are “no plans” to release Passport support”. 1/2 Gary !
#FML
Don’t take that too seriously. They are probably just parroting some form letter sent to them. They most likely work for a third party contracted to offer “customer support” so they have no insider knowledge beyond what they are “told” to say.
Deleted comment. You fixed it.
Leave them feedback that you will boycott them if they don’t offer it. 😀 You could also threaten to Tweet and facebook it.
I wouldn’t take this too seriously. I would believe a twitter response over this email.
calling bs on this one too
passbook is fully functional in canada as shown by the workaround, it benefits nobody for them to not flip on the passbook switch
Its possible this message is true, and we are not getting Passbook via the Canadian app
StarbucksCanada’s twitter timeline had a whole bunch of replies that mentioned the passbook coming soon for Canada, and as of last Friday, all those replies have been deleted.
replies are still there (dated saturday)
You are correct, I checked via the twitter website, the replies don’t show. But they do show up on Tapbot
gary, quick update dude
Done
This was their reply to me on Facebook.
Starbucks Canada We’re working on it. We’ll have details soon.
