Updated MacBook Air Models With Retina Display Expected For June 2013

Apple plans to refresh its MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models in June 2013, Digitimes reports. According to Taiwanese industry sources, Apple has already issued a request for quotations to its supply chain, causing concern among the Taiwan-based manufacturers.

However, don’t set your expectations too high, as sources say the MacBook Air won’t feature any design changes, but will ship with some juicy internals – a new processor platform.

The sources pointed out that the MacBook Air for 2013 will feature a new processor platform, but its industrial design will not see any major changes.

Interestingly though, manufacturers are particularly concerned about the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro prices, as according to the report, “Apple is likely to reduce the prices for its existing MacBook Airs before the launch of the new models.” This is unlike Apple though, as the company usually reduces the prices of existing models after the new models launch.

Just a quick note here: if Gene Munster is right, we can expect the updated MacBook Air to feature a Retina Display, but he isn’t the only one projecting a Retina Display upgrade for future MacBook Air models. Also, the new MacBook Pro line will feature Intel’s new Haswell chips.
