Apple Again Warns About the Dangers of Jailbreaking your iOS Device

The evad3rs jailbreak team had long teased a Sunday release of their latest evasi0n jailbreak tool, which has been downloaded over 1.7 million times. However, “fun day” Sunday ended up becoming Monday. On Sunday though, Apple updated a support document outlining the dangers of jailbreaking your iOS device. Were they anticipating the evasi0n release as well?

As noted by @MuscleNerd:

The document, which has been available since July of 2009, again relays the following message:

As designed by Apple, iOS and iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch are designed to work together reliably. Unauthorized modifications to iOS (“jailbreaking”) can cause numerous issues to the hacked iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

Apple strongly cautions against installing any software that hacks iOS. It is also important to note that unauthorized modification of iOS is a violation of iOS end-user license agreement and because of this, Apple may deny service for an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that has installed any unauthorized software.

In particular, Apple stresses instability, security vulnerabilities, shortened battery life, unreliable voice and data, disruption of services and the inability to apply future software updates as their main issues of concern. There were no major changes to the document, but it is interesting Apple updated it on the day of the anticipated evasi0n jailbreak tool release.
