Twitter’s Slick New iPhone Music App Now Available [Hands On]

Twitter has announced it has finally released its music app for iPhone, after teasing everyone by giving exclusive access to the new app to celebrities such as Ryan Seacrest first. What’s the app all about? The Twitter team explains:

Today, we’re releasing Twitter #music, a new service that will change the way people find music, based on Twitter. It uses Twitter activity, including Tweets and engagement, to detect and surface the most popular tracks and emerging artists. It also brings artists’ music-related Twitter activity front and center: go to their profiles to see which music artists they follow and listen to songs by those artists. And, of course, you can tweet songs right from the app.

Essentially the app finds you the most popular songs on Twitter in real time based on tweets and can be personalized once you sign in with your account (iOS integration). You can view songs based on the following categories: popular, emerging, suggested and #NowPlaying (tweets by people you follow):

You can play iTunes previews (or Rdio, Spotify) of any songs instantly with links to purchase songs right away. One tap quickly composes a tweet with the artist’s username and link to the song to share to the world:

It’s a nicely designed app and I can see music lovers enjoying this to discover trending and emerging artists.

Will this even work in canada? Most music related apps don’t.
