A few weeks back Fido doubled the data on all its Smart Plans (which were quickly matched by Virgin) and this afternoon the company has now made the $39 plan even sweeter. Minutes have increased from 300 to 450, and data has jumped to 600MB.
Also, the free one month promo for Standard and Smart Plans on on Tab24 agreements was recently extended to June 3 at midnight (available to new activations or hardware upgrades). Expect others to match this change soon.
If you are a light data and voice user, this $39 plan now looks to be pretty decent for the price. You should be able to call in and get the changes. Let us know if you’re going to jump on this!
Update: Both Virgin and Koodo have matched this plan.

Just got off the phone with Fido. This isn’t available for anyone on a 36-month contract. So basically, it isn’t available to anyone with a subsidized iPhone. 🙁
Good-looking deal for those who aren’t on contract though.
Yeah, Smart Plans are only available on two year terms, so the iPhone is not eligible. But anyone jumping on this with their own unlocked device month to month, it’s a decent deal.
Man, if this trend keeps happening, next year it will be 900 minutes and 1gb of data. hopefully!
I still think that currently Virgin Mobile has the best plans. On top of those plans they give you 10% off every month when you bring your own phone.
Koodo does the same. They should match this in no time 🙂

When will they start bringing the data cap back up? It used to be 1GB – 6GB. Now is just crap.
3 call voice mail limit!!! I have just switched to this plan, and when people weren’t able to leave me a message I called Fido. Then I learned that my bright new plan allows up to 3 voice mails for 3 days. I was astounded. My previous plan had a value pack which included somewhat more (but probably many fewer than I’d thought!). This is clearly absurd and close to useless. I can, of course, get more by paying more.
I think I’ll use the free message I get to play people when they try to leave a message to suggest they contact me another way and to say something unkind about Fido.
